I’ve gotta say-Im really pleased with how this one turned out.

This cake has been living in my brain for such a long time and there was just no way anyone was going to order something like it.
So I decided I had to make it as it was becoming a demon I needed to exorcise.

There’s a few inspo points for this cake.
Firstly the horse which is made from rice paper. The inspiration for this was .de “windhorse” puppets. They make beautiful puppets and are definitely worth checking out!
To make it I dug out a Barbie Hunchback of Notre Dame horse that I’ve kept since childhood!
The second inspo was the theming.
I decided to have the horse coming out of the sea similar to the unicorns breaking free in my fave book The last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle + The Last Unicorn .
I had thought of adding a horn but it fell off😂
There’s also a hint of the water spirit in Disney Frozen 2. So a double Disney reference on this cake!

There’s some piped buttercream waves that have been brushed down and then palette knife texturing on the sides to look like sea foam.

I hope you all love this one as much as I do!

Even though there’s no Halloween menu this year(but plenty of bakes available at my three markets over the next few weeks) I’ve still tried to sort you some Halloween themed posts.

I saw this “an Etsy witch made me do it” quote somewhere on insta and thought it would be a fun one to pop on a cake!

I really like the glitter ribbon on this and I’m kinda sad that’s all I had of it.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY!!! 📔 🗓️ 🖊️

I could bombard you with all the dates for the rest of the year but there’s genuinely so many I think I’ll drop feed you the info for now!

First up I’ll be at St Mary’s a week on Saturday-confirmed a lovely spot right by the front so you can’t miss me! 10-4, loads of wonderful makers, crafters and sellers so please come along!

Then we have Pretty Rubbish Art & Events vintage fair at the Morris hall 10-4 Sat 24th. I’m booked in to all there Saturdays now so you’ll be able to find me regularly with them alongside fab vintage clothing and homeware sellers and a few arts and crafts people!

And then November 1st is my first Xmas market of the season!
Alongside artisan makers you’ll be able to have a chat and learn more about their crafts and buy some beautiful gifts ready for Xmas!!!

Back to it after a lovely week off.
Been catching up with friends, going on long walks and having long lie ins!
As much as I’ve tried not to I have thought about cake while I’ve been off and I have a few new ideas for the markets I have coming up over the next few months!
I’ve now also finalised Xmas and elf on the shelf menus so I’ll get those posted along with my market dates for you really soon! 🐠

New bake for this month!
Earl grey, quince and pear cake!
I’ve been thinking about making this cake for about two years now.
We had a much fancier version at The Ritz and it was so good I’ve been wanting to recreate it for myself.
This cake was a yogurt and oil based cake and had serious breakfast vibes.
The quinces were kindly gifted to me by someone who had some spare who responded to a Facebook request. I slow cooker poached them in a simple sugar and vanilla syrup and then used the same syrup to cook the pears the same way.
I added some extra zest to the cake which gives it a nice light citrus taste.
I really love this cake and would make it again in a multitude of flavours!
