Family-owned artisan bakery, proudly baking proper good food for Hucknall Welcome to Spelt and Rye. We are a new artisan bakery / deli based in Hucknall.

Our aim is to provide the community with the freshest homemade breads, free from additives and using where possible ingredients that are locally produced. We use traditional techniques that promote flavour and enhance the loaf’s freshness. The word artisan signifies handmade and that is what our breads are, ensuring the tastiest crust and crumb.

We've been buying cakes from Vicky at the Sweet Hatch since we opened the Cafe. We love stocking fresh, local produce wherever we can - and you can't really get more local than up the road! If you haven't tried her Lemon Meringue Deep-Dish Cookies yet you are seriously missing out, they are divine! 😋 And luckily for you you can find them at Spelt & Rye Cafe (we have them every week, we genuinely can't get enough!)

We'll be making Irish Soda Farls this Wednesday

If you've not tried them before, they are made with yogurt and bicarbonate of soda instead of water and yeast, giving them a lovely soft texture and a unique taste. They make the most amazing bacon sandwiches 😋

We've got White Farls and Wholemeal Farls, both £1 each

If you would like to try some please order in advance as we will have a very limited amount spare. We will be making them on Wednesday but we are happy to freeze them for you if you're not able to make it in then.

As always we also have a wide range of other breads such as the baguettes below, and our Cafe will be open from 11am - 3pm for those of you who fancy one of those baguettes for your lunch 😁

We've redesigned our menu for the Cafe!

Most items are the same but there are a few changes so please have a browse through ☺️

And thank you to everyone that has supported the new Cafe so far. We've had so many lovely comments and reviews, I'm so excited to work on developing the Cafe and the menu further! There may already be some Christmas cobs planned, but you will have to wait and see 🫣

These are our new opening times starting this week 😁

Don't forget that you can now place orders from the Bakery and pick them up from the Cafe any time until 3pm. So if you are not able to make it into the bakery before 1pm you should still be able to get all the bread and pastries you desire!

IMPORTANT UPDATE!

Good evening to all of our lovely customers! I want to let you know that we will have new opening hours starting on Wednesday 26th August. Both the Bakery and Cafe will be affected so please read below!

NEW 🥐 Bakery hours:
9am - 1pm Wednesday
9am - 1pm Thursday
9am - 1pm Friday
8:30am - 1pm Saturday

NEW ☕ Cafe hours:
11am - 3pm Wednesday
11am - 3pm Thursday
11am - 3pm Friday
11am - 3pm Saturday

Basically we have decided to spread out our day a bit by closing the bakery earlier and opening the Cafe later. This way we can focus on the lunch trade at the Cafe, and start adding specials to our menu

And we have a solution for those of you who are unable to make it to the Bakery before 1pm! Orders placed in advance can be picked up from the Cafe between 1pm - 3pm. Just give us a call, let us know you will need to pick it up from the Cafe, and we will get it ready for you! 🧑‍🍳👍
