Things we do on a road trip part two… more beach, eat cakes, eat bread, try to be cool in Berlin, Japanese breakfast, buy books, buy cheese, and bread, pretend to be tourists in Berlin, drive to Holland… and tomorrow we catch the ferry home ready to engage with our wonderful life in Ely again. Which is why there are loaves available on the website, as next week I bake again!

Things that the Bread by Neil family do on holiday… part one… catch ferries, eat smoked fish at the Hamburg Fischmarkt, ride rollercoasters, watch bike races, look at buildings in Szczecin, eat pastries, and bread, go to the beach in Dziwnow, watch sunsets, eat on the beach, more beach.

And we’re only half way through.

An empty bench in the bakery can only mean one thing… it’s time for the Bread by Neil family to go on a road trip. We’re back at the beginning of September having ticked off Holland, Germany, Poland and more sausages and pickles than I can imagine. See you then!

First load in the oven for Ely Markets Farmer’s Market. I’m bringing Dons, Umamis, Village loaves, Zestys, Pumpernickel’s Cousins, Bastards, Hugs, Scandi Crispbread, Cinnamon Buns, Sesame Ginger Buns, Hazelnut Butter Tarts, Bread Pudding. And me!

I got confused about bank holidays yesterday but still had a trip to the seaside at Felixstowe anyway. I’m thinking of it as a bit of practice for my real holiday in a couple of weeks time – the bakery is closed from 15–30 August.

Don’t worry there’s still time to get a few loaves in before I go, either from the bakery or Ely Markets Farmers Market on Saturday.

Much nicer week for baking this week now we’re back to a normal British summer. No Ely Markets market for me this week, but still a few loaves left on the website if you need your fix.

I have a few spare loaves from a rare non-sellout event… including off menu items such as Mini-brioche and Cheese and Onion Batard. I’m here on Back Hill until 6pm today if you’d like one.

That was a hot one!

Cold water, chilled starter, inclusions straight from the fridge, smaller batches, careful scheduling and plenty of ice creams mean that I’ve managed to get the dough made and safely into the fridge ready to bake off in the morning for Ely Markets Farmer’s Market.

There’ll be Parmys and Village loaves, Sesame Ginger Buns, Hazelnut Butter tarts plus all the regulars. See you in the morning if we don’t all melt overnight. 🥵

New stockist alert! I’m now doing a regular bread drop to Stretham Stores on a Thursday morning, starting small but if the demand’s there we’ll grow it.
