Baking with Love & Responsibility! 🍪🌿
As a home baker, my passion isn’t just about creating delicious treats—it’s also about making mindful choices for health and the environment. That’s why I avoid plastic dishes, aluminum cookware, and silicone molds for baking, as they can leach harmful substances into food, especially when exposed to high temperatures.
🔍 Did you know?
Plastic containers can release BPA and phthalates, which may disrupt hormones and affect health. Even “BPA-free” plastics can still contain other harmful chemicals.
Aluminum foil and bakeware may react with acidic foods (like lemon or tomato), causing aluminum to leach into food. High aluminum intake has been linked to potential health risks, including neurotoxicity.
Silicone molds, though considered food-safe, may release siloxanes when heated at high temperatures. Some studies suggest that low-quality or heavily used silicone bakeware can break down over time, potentially contaminating food.
That’s why I choose stainless steel and glass for mixing, baking, and storing—safe, durable, and non-reactive! ✅
🌈 What About Food Coloring & Decorations?
When it comes to food coloring and edible decorations, I’m extra mindful and always check ingredient lists beforehand. I avoid artificial additives as much as possible, especially those that contain E171 (Titanium Dioxide), E102 (Tartrazine), and E129 (Allura Red), which have raised health concerns:
❗️E171 (Titanium Dioxide) was banned in the EU due to concerns about DNA damage and cancer risks.
❗️E102 (Tartrazine) has been linked to hyperactivity in children and allergic reactions.
❗️E129 (Allura Red) has been associated with immune system disruption and possible behavioral effects.
This applies not only to food dyes but also to edible cake decorations like sprinkles, glitter, and metallic paints, which often contain artificial colors, titanium dioxide, and other questionable additives. Instead, when possible, I opt for natural coloring, such as:
✅ Berries - fresh or dried
✅ Purple sweet potato powder
✅ Beetroot powder
✅ Matcha (green tea powder)
✅ Spirulina (for blue-green hues)
✅ Butterfly pea flower powder
✅ Cocoa powder
