Hello! It’s back on the ig - here, I’ve got photos and clips showing how I make my hand-illustrated ceramics. I create two ranges with dandelions and wild peas which I draw onto bowls, mugs and jugs. Scroll across and you can watch me throwing a large pitcher on the pottery wheel, and different stages of the making process such as turning the foot ring before the first firing; illustrating the bisque ware - pots that have had a low firing at 1000c to stabilize them before surface decoration and glaze; and pots painted with a variety of glazes. The different oxides in these glazes mean that in their raw state they have a completely different colour to the finished pieces - fired this time to 1300c! Did you know…porcelain is an incredibly strong and durable material - because of its very high silica content, it vitrifies in the kiln making it completely non-porous, and it can be polished to a very high finish without needing any glaze at all 🤷‍♀️✨ come and see for yourselves: 6-7th June

My final post for this evening is a little taste of why I do what I do. I’m not exactly sure what the drive is; I’m inspired by everything. Nature, flowers, art, interiors, pattern, beachcombing, colour, even just walking down the street! This is an indulgent look at what inspires me and the work that springs from that. All the work is mine - either photography, screenprint, etching, ceramics or drawing…the only one I can’t claim is the beautiful dried earth wall by Andy Goldsworthy, a long term fave of mine., from his retrospective in Edinburgh last summer. I have more ideas than I know what to do with, never enough time to explore them all in and I just can’t help wanting to make things :-) This weekend 6/7th June will be so special - so many artists and makers in throwing open their doors and sharing the creativity that sustains us. Do please come and explore - I will be on Carnegie Drive, along with my wonderful studio colleagues, and there will be opportunity all over town to see and buy original pieces straight from the studio 👋✨💖 follow for info on maps, locations and opening times!

Hi Dunfermline!👋 I’m Bee and I’m taking part in this weekend. I’m a , illustrator and printmaker. I’m a native, moved back here in 2019, and I’ve been part of the amazing tenant community studios ever since. I create handmade porcelain ceramics, that I wheelthrow and hand illustrate, or colour and polish. I also make bright, beautiful kitchenalia using my original illustrations to bring cheer to the everyday. Above you can see some of my black porcelain espresso ware, and nasturtium print tea towels. I create my illustrations in pen and watercolour, drawing plants and birds into sometimes fanciful designs. I love eclecticism and I’m super excited to share all my creativity with you on our first ever Dunfermline arts trail! 🥳🤩✨

A snatched extra day at because of Storm Dave in April gave me a little time to indulge in some screen printing time - I love to create stencils and colours in an abstract response to the landscape around me. It was a really rewarding day to take a rest from clay and simply play for a while, surrounded by the hills, and Loch Long 💗

Back to learning, experimenting, feeling a bit like I’m back at primary school, hand building in clays I’ve never used before…plenty of grittiness, dark colours, texture - very different from the smooth white porcelain I am used to. Thinking of appliqué tile areas, sculpting candle holding or lighting forms. I had big expectations for my one week - hand building, collecting and making natural glazes and testing them…the reality was a few bisque firings of test tiles and test shapes to be returned to after the busyness of May is over. I’m still looking forward to seeing these new clays after a high firing. It was wonderful to work with earths, looking out over the elemental landscape all day 🤎🙏🤎

I’ve been wanting to post for a few weeks about my residency time at at the beginning of April. Life has been so busy. It was an incredible week there, using part of my grant funding to explore new clay work and ideas. This post is simply to introduce the wonder of the place, a studio and living area with breathtaking views of hills dressed in constantly shifting spring weather, a rich time spent with the most wonderful bunch of multidisciplinary artists.
