There WILL be Special Sundaes from time to time so lovers of Coconut and Mint Choc Chip do not despair!

The heatwave is returning so we’ve stocked up with your favourite flavours of soft serve ice cream and tubs of honeycomb and chocolate ☺️

Can we talk about Celebration Cakes? ❤️

Yesterday I bumped into one of our lovely customers and we had an honest chat about our Bespoke Cake business.

The Kitchen’s logo continues to say “Cakes for all Occasions” but we’ve had to scale back our beautiful bespoke cakes just now and some of you are curious as to why this is?

We’ve always loved creating show stopping cakes and being a part of your celebrations. Sadly however the cost of creating these has skyrocketed.

Butter, sugar, eggs, chocolate. The boards, boxes, everything else associated with a delicious and beautifully decorated has gone up in price.

And the cost of baking and creating, along with the overheads in keeping The Kitchen open have risen way beyond anything we could have predicted.

All of this means that the cost of a beautifully decorated bespoke celebration cake is beyond the budget of many of us at the moment. It’s impossible to create them at a price which works for us all sadly.

The customer I chatted to yesterday said how much they missed the taste of our celebration cakes. That they are so moist and full of flavour ☺️

And this is where we have some really good news!

You can still purchase and enjoy a delicious cake from The Kitchen to enjoy at your birthday, anniversary, Christening or other occasion!

This can be any one of the cakes available on our counter, so pick your favourite flavour!

It will be filled and finished with fresh buttercream, of course! We can add a bespoke topper and , if you wish, some flowers or perhaps favourite chocolates? Perhaps a message on the board, or a particular colour theme?

A cake such as this, which takes less time and ingredients, is moist, full of flavour and delicious. It looks lovely and could be the perfect centrepiece to your celebration.

Last Week!

In case you missed it we jumped on the viral trend that is Dot Cakes!

We made Bread Pudding and Cornish Pudding again by popular request!

Raspberry @ Pistachio, Orange & Lemon, Chocolate & Caramel Cakes were popular new flavours.

You went crazy for Cake Pops!

We discussed Cake Sheds and made plans for Father’s Day.

And all of this while continuing to serve delicious breakfast and lunchtime food. An uplift in Afternoon Tea bookings, and of course our delicious soft serve Ice Cream, Milkshakes & Sundaes ☺️

And Coffee ☕️ Lots of Coffee ☺️

Many new customers talk about finding our Cafe, without realising we’re so much more. If you’ve not yet visited us then please do!

Thank you everyone for your support recently. We haven't hidden the fact that things aren't easy in hospitality just now, and we can really see how you have made time to shop with us, enjoy a meal in the tearoom, or send a message of encouragement - thank you!

One thing I have noticed is that whilst footfall and takings may have dropped - which we completely understand - the sale of cakes has held up, and Afternoon Tea bookings have increased slightly.

I can only surmise this is because even when things are really tough, we all still need a treat! And if you are spending money (and calories!) on cake then it's important to make sure it's a good one!

Likewise, birthdays, anniversaries and many other occasions still need to be celebrated. Afternoon Tea can be a very cost effective way of doing so - and again you only have to look at our reviews to see that The Kitchen comes highly rated (thank you everyone who has taken the time to write a review!)

Consequently we are taking more time and care than ever to ensure our counter is fully stocked with all your favourite cakes (as well as some new flavours!) Many of them are easy to pick up and take away - with a great value deal of just £10.00 for three slices.

We are also serving a range of Afternoon Teas now - from a Midweek deal to a Bottomless experience. Something for every budget we hope!

Over the weekend of June 20 - 21 we are offering Afternoon Tea for all those Father Figures in our lives. You can enquire online about reserving a table so why not do so now? This combines our Luxury Tea with Sausage Rolls, Miniature Quiches and a Tring Beer or Glass of Wine for just £35.00pp.

Hello everyone!
It’s almost impossible to have missed the coverage being given to Cake Sheds at the moment. The TV news, online and social media stories are full of them!
We have known about them for a while but their recent publicity is primarily about the legislation surrounding them.
Cake Sheds are registered and inspected in the same way as any food business. The issue seems to be around the requirement for a street trading licence which would come at a large cost.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of these small businesses in the UK. Have you used one? They look like a great way to make home baked treats available to many more people, at the same time allowing bakers to indulge their love of baking and make a small income. Win-Win?!

If there’s no Cake Shed nearby then please don’t forget you can already purchase home baked cakes, cupcakes, brownies, traybakes, cookies, cake pops and other treats from The Kitchen!

Whilst many think of us as a tearoom to sit in and enjoy Afternoon Tea, or a light breakfast or lunch, we also have a counter full of treats to take away. Cake pops start at 1.50 and many of our slices are three for just 10.00.

On the counter today we have a Chocolate & Caramel Cake, an Orange & Lemon Cake, more Dot Cakes, Brownies, Lemon Drizzle, Victoria Sponge and a Raspberry & Almond Slice. We also have the return of both Cornish & Bread Pudding.

We’re open 11am - 5pm and would love today to be a sell out. Please come and help us!
