So it was my youngest's 12th birthday on Monday. Long Gone are the days of unicorns and mermaids......
So, for our aspiring Marine Biologist I made this cake: A mash up of The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai and a couple of her favorite sea animals.

I haven't baked in such a while. It was lovely to come back to it, creating something I haven't made before, for my eldest.

Long gone is the girlie pink. We've opted for sage green this year and in a rustic bohemian style.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...........Our youngest turns 9 today! She began watching shark films through lockdown and has developed an obsession with sharks (apparently shes too grown up for mermaids now 😆) So the theme for her cake was inevitable. Happy birthday Jess 🦈🎈🎁🎂

I have a confession to make.
Over the past few years, I fell alittle out of love with baking.
We moved house twice, so my equipment was in and out of storage. Like alot of us, I took on too many roles, whilst trying to just navigate through life and deal with some bumps and a couple of craters in the road. I was left too tired and uninspired to create.
However, through lockdown, my girls have shown great excitement being in the kitchen; cooking and baking. Their enthusiasm has encouraged me to be inventive and experimental, especially during times we couldn't get our usual ingredients.
We have filled the house with the smell of cinnamon, chocolate and raspberries and, when things didnt go to plan, we filled the house with giggles.
My beautiful girls are the reason I started baking in the first place (I was desperate to make their 1st birthday cakes) and, they have now reminded me, baking isn't about perfection, it's about creating something with love.
As for most of us, this year will be one I will never forget, but the most important thing I will take from 2020 is; I am so lucky to have the most wonderful people in my life who will be my constant inspiration to pursue what makes me happy 🥰
