Ivan’s a good name , my Brothers Name. His native name given is Shining Bear— I may be slightly biased. 🐻

I checked the Ojibwe People’s Dictionary to get this right: **makwa** is bear, and **waasezi** is the verb for a living being that shines — “he/she is bright, radiant.” (It’s the animate partner of *waaseyaa*, “it shines,” like the sun.) Put together:

**Waasezi-makwa** — Shining Bear
Say it: *wah-seh-ZIH muh-KWAH.
