In an act so unethical and vile, a series of events to vilify Jews here and around the world have been planned for next Wednesday, the third anniversary of the October 7th massacre of Jews by Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Even more than the message, the deliberate timing is grotesque. If you’re planning on going, my advice is don’t. It will be filmed from every possible angle, and your being there will never be erased. Unless you want your name bound up with the r**e and mutilation of girls, the beheading of babies, and the murder of parents in front of their children, steer clear. You will be seen. You will be filmed. You will be known. You will one day have to explain it to your children, and your grandchildren. Choose wisely.

Every war is tragic, and contains unspeakable horrors. But misusing language to achieve rhetorical effect, or to make a political point, creates only further harm. Consider this - if we insist that the loss of a handful of ten dollars bills is no different than the robbery of an entire bank, then not only have we made the first seem histrionic, but we make the latter seem unimportant. It’s a clumsy analogy, I know, but there are no easy comparisons. What has happened in Gaza is awful, tragic and profound - both for those it affects directly, and for all of us as humans. But to call it genocide (as so many clumsily do) is to disrespect the experience of those who have been the actual victims of that crime - the Sudanese, the Yemenis, the Kurds, the Tigrayan Ethiopians, the Cambodians, the Rwandans, the East Timorese. Oh, and the world’s Jews. If you conclude that ‘genocide’ is no more than a term of art that can be moulded to suit your undercurrent predetermined worldview, then you’re not having a discussion, you’re barking at the moon. You can ignore my words all you like, but the numbers don’t change just because you find them inconvenient. With thanks to Lee Kern for the chart - than man, the legend, the mensch.

I need a little favour from someone, a bit of urgent help. My little mini-me, well, 21 but still a mini-me, is in 2nd year fashion design and a star student. He has to do an internship of 70 hours, completed by November 20th, in some capacity in the fashion industry. It was all set to go with an outstanding Sydney-based tailoring and couture house, but circumstances beyond anyone’s control got in the way. His creative focus is tailoring, but he’s very open to learning whatever you can offer. If you’re able to help, and the opportunity is based in Sydney, could you DM me. Like many Jews here in Australia and around the world, I’m constantly bombarded by accusations of complicity in genocide, supporting ethnic cleansing, or advocating for the abolition of Arab identity in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. Just to be clear, none of those things are true, in fact, quite the opposite. But just in case you need some facts to make things clearer, I’ve made you a little chart to help explain history as it happened, not how it might be imagined. If you find this troublesome, feel very free to do your own research. They’re called books, they have pages, and they work best when you actually read them.
