We’re away again with another fully sold out Slow Rail Journey, once again travelling to the beautiful Gippsland region of Victoria.

With every bed occupied on this Slow Rail Journey, our dedicated team of volunteers are eager to showcase regional Victoria to guests who have supported this second run to Gippsland.

Tomorrow, our guests transfer to coaches and ferries for some off-train adventuring around Bruthen, Metung, Paynesville and Lakes Entrance.

With our 2026 series of Slow Rail Journey touring drawing to a close, limited availability remains on only one more itinerary, our steam hauled short Slow Rail Journey to The Bellarine on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th of November 2026. Our highly successful inaugural Slow Rail Journey to Gippsland has now concluded and we want to thank our amazing group of guests who joined us on this very ambitious itinerary, an itinerary which has been very well received.

After an early start this morning, we travelled from Bairnsdale to Warragul to connect with coach transfers as part of our series of off-train excursions, bound for historic Walhalla, Victoria.

Slow Rail Journeys is very proud to support other kindred rail heritage groups who form a part of the Railway and Tramway Heritage Victoria (RTHV) sector. Sector organisations working in conjunction and supporting each other, and today our Slow Rail Journeys guests visited the Walhalla Goldfields Railway for a ride on their preserved railway.

We've supported nearly every sector organisation who forms part of the RTHV since it's inception, an achievement of which we are very keen to develop - because when sector members work with each other, we can achieve better outcomes all around, for all!

Thanks to the Walhalla Goldfields Railway for hosting us today, and into the future.

Our Inaugural Gippsland Slow Rail Journey terminated on time this evening at Melbourne's Flinders Street railway station where the 13 carriage consist occupied the entire length of platforms 10 and 12.

This weekend, we are out and about exploring a brand new region for Slow Rail Journeys.

For some time we’ve been eager to visit the Gippsland region, however a near continual Government Big Build program has impacted reliable operations towards the Eastern region of Victoria.

With the Metro tunnel project now complete and the full testing and commissioning of the High Capacity Metropolitan train project now over, there is increased reliability of train pathing to Bairnsdale.

This weekend, we’re touring Gippsland with a fully booked out Slow Rail Journey. In fact, this weekends trip was fully sold out within 30 hours with heavy uptake by our valued members and prior guests.

After our departure from Melbourne on Friday evening, we’ve travelled to Bairnsdale for a full day of off-train touring on Saturday.
Our Gippsland Explorer off-train tour took in Bruthen, the Tambo Honey. Onwards to Wyanga Park Winery for lunch, a cruise from Lakes Entrance to Paynesville for a Raymond Island wildlife encounter and dinner in beautiful Paynesville.

Overnight tonight, our train will continue to Warragul for more off-train touring on Sunday.

Today was great, tomorrow is just as exciting with Slow Rail Journeys.

Mother Nature threw a few challenges into the equation for our current VINELANDER Slow Rail Journey but our volunteers quickly adapted to ensure our travels could continue.

With bad weather in the region causing road closures, access to the Mungo National Park was not available. Our team reacted quickly and worked an alternate off-train experience into the weekends program.

This weekend, our touring groups visited Wentworth and Renmark instead of Mungo, with some additional Silo Art viewing stops along the way.
Meanwhile in Mildura, we once again spent time at the Mildura Botanic Gardens, Orange World, and Murray River cruising on board the PB Mundoo to the delightful Trentham Estate.

In conjunction with our brilliant Mildura based caterers and suppliers, we were able to quickly adapt and change our plans to ensure guests were captivated while visiting the Mallee region.

We’re away again having departed on our third VINELANDER Slow Rail Journey from Melbourne to Mildura.

For the next six days, we have a fully booked tour with guests on board eager to explore the Mallee region of Victoria and the spectacular Mungo National Park.

In 2026, we’re operating four VINELANDER Slow Rail Journeys from Melbourne to Mildura and all are now fully booked out.

We have big plans for more Mildura journeys in 2027, with our first dates of operation to be announced to our members in the next week.
