As June comes to a close, I've been reflecting on five years of Soul Good.

Five years ago, I set out with one simple idea:

Create artisan caramels that more people could enjoy.

Over the years, I've met countless people who carefully read ingredient labels before choosing something sweet to share with family and friends. Those conversations have reminded me that food is about so much more than dessert—it's about feeling included, celebrating together, and knowing everyone around the table can enjoy the moment.

As this anniversary month comes to a close, I'm feeling especially grateful.

Thank you for supporting a small Massachusetts business, sharing Soul Good with the people you love, and believing in the idea that simple ingredients can bring people together.

This summer I'll be quietly refreshing our packaging, growing our retail presence, and preparing for an exciting fall season.

The reason behind every caramel

A few thoughts as summer begins

I've been spending time with family and helping care for my brother, which has naturally pulled some of my attention away from Soul Good for a little while.

Thank you for your patience, your support, and for being part of this community.

During that time, I've found myself thinking again about why Soul Good exists in the first place.

Like many of you, I'm a label reader.

I know what it feels like to stand in front of a shelf, wanting something simple and sweet, only to discover it's filled with ingredients that don't work for you.

That desire for something uncomplicated, inclusive, and enjoyable is what inspired Soul Good from the beginning.

And it's one of the reasons Father's Day always feels meaningful to me.

My dad loved sweets, and many of my favorite memories of him are tied to those simple moments of sharing something we both enjoyed.

As Father's Day, graduations, summer gatherings, and Independence Day celebrations approach, I'm reminded how often nostalgic food helps create those small moments of connection - and how meaningful it is when everyone can share in something sweet.

This is exactly why I started Soul Good.

What began as a search for something simple and safe…
has turned into moments like this.

Reading this honestly stopped me in my tracks.
Thank you for coming back year after year — it means more than I can say.

And for everyone who has discovered us the same way…
I’m so glad you found us.

At this point, I don’t go to VegFest… I go to find this caramel. 😅

This is me with SoulGood Confections—and yes, I hunt down this booth every single year.

What started as a quick sample turned into a full-blown tradition.
Because these aren’t just vegan caramels—they’re hands down some of the best caramels I’ve ever had. Rich, soft, buttery (without the butter), melt-in-your-mouth, and actually feel like a real treat—not a substitute.

Like… if you handed this to someone without saying a word, they wouldn’t question it. They’d just keep eating.

Kimberly, the founder, started this company because she couldn’t find sweets that were safe for people with allergies and still felt indulgent. So she made her own—using simple, organic, coconut-based ingredients and skipping dairy, soy, and the usual additives.

And somehow made it taste like this.

No weird aftertaste. No chalky texture. No “this is good for being vegan.”
Just… ridiculously good caramel.

A moment that shaped everything that came next.

Today’s email is a little different.

I wanted to share something personal with you — especially as we move through April, the month of my dad’s birthday.

My dad always supported everything I did — from my karate career to raising my kids. We shared a love for sweets, and those simple moments together meant a lot.

Toward the end of his life, he was dealing with an illness that limited what he could eat. It stayed with me how hard it was to find something simple and sweet he could truly feel good about.

He passed away before Soul Good Confections ever came to life.

On the day my son and I left his home in Miami for the last time, carrying the last of his beloved books, the sky opened up in a way I’ll never forget.

Sunbeams stretched across the sky — bold, quiet, and impossible to ignore.

It felt like a message — clear, bold, and unmistakable.

In that moment, I knew I was on the right path. I didn’t know exactly what it would become — only that it mattered.

And in many ways, Soul Good was born from that feeling — a desire to create something simple and sweet that people can truly feel good about.

Something made with intention.
Something that brings peace of mind.
Something everyone can enjoy.
