Ruston Animal Control 🐾 Welcome to Ruston Animal Shelter! 🐾
Saving Lives, Four Paws at a Time 🐶🐱 Live humane traps are available at no cost for use by Ruston residents.

The Animal Control Department supports the humane treatment of animals inside the Ruston city limits, through operation of the Ruston Animal Shelter, educational programs, and enforcement of City and State laws. Ruston Animal Control officers investigate cruelty cases as well as complaints about barking dogs, aggressive animals, livestock running at-large, or other nuisance animals inside the city

limits. Animal Control officers check these traps and tend to impounded animals on weekday mornings. Animal Control staff also removes dead animals from roads inside Ruston. Call Ruston Animal Control at 318-251-8685 Monday-Thursday 7:00 am to 4:30 p.m. and 7:00am-11:00am on Friday. For information about or to report any of the following:

•Nuisance Animals
•Dogs or Livestock running at-large
•Dead Animals
•Animal Cruelty
•Animal Bites

The Ruston Animal Shelter, located at 1212 McAllister Street, is open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am - 4:30 p.m. And 7:00am-11:00am on Friday. People looking for a pet are encouraged to visit the Shelter and consider adopting from a shelter first. Shelter staff will be happy to provide selection assistance and pet care advice. You will need to agree to an adoption contract and pay a small adoption fee that includes a certificate for free sterilization of the adopted pet. Please contact Animal Control if you’re looking for your lost pet. We may have picked up your pet. There is a small boarding fee for reclaimed pets.

Today is a very sad day around here… because it’s officially our girl’s LAST DAY at the shelter. 😭💔 She’s funny, hardworking, somehow survives the daily chaos of animal shelter life, and has been one of those coworkers who can make even the most ridiculous day 10x better. We’re genuinely going to miss her more than the dogs miss a squeaky toy they just destroyed 4 seconds ago.

She’s returning to college, which is exciting for her… but frankly, we’re taking it personally. We tried to convince her that college credits could be earned by playing with animals and finding them homes, but apparently that’s “not how school works.” 🙄 Her one wish for her last day was simple, she wants people to COME ADOPT. So if you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged roommate to your life, today would be a pretty great day to do it. 🐾

So come adopt a dog, adopt a cat, tell her goodbye, and maybe cry a little bit with us. We’re so proud of you and so thankful we got to work alongside you. Just remember, college may give you a degree, but nothing will ever prepare you for the smell of a kennel room at 7:30 AM. We love you, you absolute menace. ❤️🐶🐱

Louie would like everyone to know that he is STARVING.

He ate recently.
This information is irrelevant.

Louie is currently an itty-bitty baby whose daily responsibilities consist of being tiny, growing, sleeping, and screaming for room service. His foster mom says he and Cheddar spend most of their time meowing for food right now, which is understandable considering they are approximately the size of two chicken nuggets. 😭

He’s still so young that we’re waiting to see his full personality come out, but so far Louie has demonstrated excellent communication skills. Specifically, he has mastered one very important message: “MEOW.”

What does it mean? Food.
What if he just ate? Food.
What if you already know he wants food? Louder meow.

Louie may be tiny, but his opinions regarding meal service are already fully developed. 🍼🐱

Cowboy may have been given a rugged name, but unfortunately for his reputation, he is a complete sweetheart. 🤠

This little man LOVES to play, loves to be pet, and seems to have misplaced the off switch for his purr motor. Cowboy is the kind of kitten who can turn pretty much anything into entertainment and is always ready to see what everybody else is doing. He’s outgoing, energetic, and has places to be and people to meet.

Cowboy is a SOCIAL man. Especially when it comes to other cats and dogs! He may not be the type to lay around snuggling all day, but he absolutely loves affection and being around everyone. He has adventures to attend to, thank you very much.

Basically, Cowboy is looking for a home where he can play hard, purr harder, and continue being the rootinest, tootinest tiny man in Ruston. 🤠🐱

Cheddar currently has two things on his mind:

1. Food?
2. Where is the food?

That’s about as far as we’ve gotten. He is VERY small and VERY busy growing, so at this stage in his life, Cheddar’s primary contribution to society is standing around being ridiculously tiny and yelling whenever he believes a meal should be happening. Which is often. 🧀😭

He’s still just a little baby, so his personality is only beginning to show. Right now, his hobbies include eating, meowing about eating, thinking about eating, and being approximately three inches tall.

There may not be many thoughts behind those tiny blue eyes yet, but there ARE demands, and Cheddar would like to know why you are still reading this instead of preparing his bottle.

Patrice is a professional sweetheart. Her qualifications include being adorable, being playful, and believing that any available human should probably be loving on her right now. She is the kind of kitten who sees you sit down and thinks, “Perfect, you’re free to pet me.” 😌💕

She’s playful and curious, but underneath all that kitten energy is just a little girl who REALLY likes affection. Patrice isn’t asking for much, just a loving home, plenty of playtime, and someone willing to remind her approximately 47 times a day that she is, in fact, the prettiest girl in the world.

Jack has discovered that humans can provide attention and frankly, he sees no reason to complicate things beyond that. He’s playful, sweet, and VERY happy to receive all the love you are willing to give him. 🐱

He’s got that perfect kitten combination of “LET’S PLAY RIGHT NOW” followed shortly by “okay actually I would like affection please.” Jack is looking for someone willing to participate in his very demanding schedule of playing, being cute, and getting loved on. Jack also basks in the companionship of doggos he runs into!

Yes. Her name is B***y. Please remain professional.

B***y is apparently one of the funniest cats on planet Earth and has absolutely no idea that she is a tiny kitten. She is a sassy little queen who loves people, loves other kitties, and most importantly, LOVES being held like a baby. Pick her up, cradle her in your arms, and she immediately turns into a tiny purring motor. 👶🐱

She loves being around her people and dogs, and will happily hang out with you all day, but somehow manages to do it without being overly needy. She’s independent, social, playful, affectionate, and apparently committed to being the funniest person in your household despite not technically being a person.
Basically, B***y has range. She can play with the cats. She can entertain herself. She can follow you around. She can be baby. She can be queen. 👑

If you want a tiny roommate with a HUGE personality who will keep you laughing and then demand to be cradled like an infant, congratulations. You have found B***y.

Lady has reviewed the concept of sharing a household with other cats and would like to file a formal complaint.

When it’s just Lady and her person, though? She is a complete sweetheart. She’s never bitten her foster mom, she’s been slowly coming out of her shell, and she’s even started playing around the other cats and dogs! Does she occasionally hiss at them? Yes. But Lady believes in communicating her boundaries clearly. 😭

Because of that, she would probably be happiest as your one and only little princess where she doesn’t have to compete with anyone for her kingdom. Give her some patience and a space where she feels comfortable, and there is a very sweet little girl underneath all that initial suspicion.

And PLEASE look at those enormous eyes. Lady permanently looks like she has just overheard something absolutely devastating from across the room. 👁️👁️

She may need a little time to trust you, but once she realizes she’s safe, her sweet side starts showing more and more. Lady isn't looking for a crowded castle, just one where she can finally be the queen. 👑💕

Boo is a tiny tuxedo gentleman with a VERY busy schedule. He has toys to chase, things to investigate, rooms to run through, and important kitten business that frankly does not concern you. 🎩🐱

He is an active little guy who LOVES playing with his toys, but beneath his demanding career as a professional silly little man, he is also an absolute sweetheart. Boo would be happy as your sidekick or with other cats, so he’s pretty flexible about his future living arrangements. He’s also pretty good with dogs!
He’s basically looking for a home that can provide three things: toys, love, and enough square footage to conduct whatever extremely important operation he is currently running.

If you want a sweet, playful little tuxedo man who looks permanently dressed for an event nobody else was invited to, Boo is waiting to meet you. 🖤🤍
