As a small custom cake artist, I want to take a moment to address something that I think a lot of bakers and customers alike should understand.
Every cake I create is handmade, not mass produced, not factory printed, and not created by a computer. I put real time, effort, supplies, creativity, and care into every order that leaves my kitchen. Because of that, no two cakes will ever be identical, and I do not promise exact replicas of another artist’s work, Pinterest photos, or AI-generated images.
AI cake images especially have created unrealistic expectations for many bakers across the industry. Those images are often digitally generated concepts made by a computer program, not actual physical cakes that were baked, stacked, frosted, transported, and decorated by a real human being. They can contain details, textures, proportions, and effects that are either edited, enhanced, or simply impossible to recreate exactly in real life.
When customers send inspiration photos, I use them as inspiration, not as a blueprint for duplication. I will always do my best to capture the overall theme, style, and vision while still creating something unique and handmade.
I also want to address pricing because I know many people don’t always see what goes into custom cakes behind the scenes. Even a “simple” cake includes:
• Multiple cake flavors and fillings
• Ingredients and baking time
• Boxes, boards, supports, and packaging
• Edible images, fondant, toppers, and decorations
• Hours of decorating and assembly
• Delivery, setup, and transportation risk
Custom cakes are art, and like any handmade art, you are paying not only for ingredients, but also for time, skill, experience, and labor.
To be completely transparent, my pricing is extremely fair, and honestly, in many cases lower than what most custom bakers would charge for similar work. I work hard to keep my cakes affordable for families while still providing quality and creativity. If anything, my prices should probably be higher to truly reflect the amount of work that goes into each order.
I truly appreciate every customer who supports my small business, trusts my creativity, and understands that handmade items will always have human differences, and that’s exactly what makes them special.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support local artists, bakers, and small businesses. ❤️
