Raised above his family’s Chicago bakery, Andrea Spella began drinking espresso when he was old enough to raise a cup to his lips. For quality and consistency, this Portland, Oregon roaster develops deep relationships with coffee growers and roasts the beans himself, always aiming for the “sweet spot.” Somewhere between a light and dark roast, his beans boast a balance of sweet and bitter with a d

Welcome to Spella Caffè where we serve traditional Italian sized beverages without any attitude ! 🤣🫶🏼✨

We thought it would be fun to do some videos that highlight who we are (we’re a bunch of goofs), what we serve {and don’t serve} on our classic menu.

We love having folks hang at the al banco for a chat while they sip, but we also understand when folks need to take it to go (we highly recommend espresso and macchiatos for here- it’s just way better in ceramic). Our biggest size to go is 12oz— so you can still taste our legacy espresso.

We do have some fantastic house-made syrups but no caramel sauce, except on our current limited caramel swirl gelato. Try our in-house mocha, local honey, or Ecuadorian vanilla from ! Our traditional macchiatos are a doppio ristretto and a couple dollops of foam.

The morning rush is underway at Spella Caffè. Austin stands behind the lever espresso machine, lifting each lever with practiced confidence as customers gather at the bar. The aroma of freshly roasted coffee fills the room while cups clink onto saucers and conversations drift through the café.

Each shot is pulled with intention, the result of nearly two decades dedicated to authentic Italian espresso. Thoughtfully sourced beans are roasted in small batches and prepared with care. From the slow roast to the rich stream of espresso flowing into the cup, every step reflects a commitment to tradition, quality, and community.

As Austin slides another espresso across the counter, it’s clear that Spella is more than a coffee company—it’s a daily ritual built on craftsmanship, care, and a deep respect for the art of espresso.🫶🏼☕️✨

At Spella, our roastery and caffè crew carefully hand-stamps every bag of beans and every paper cup.

Why?

Because holding that handcrafted wooden stamp, dipping it into that rich reddish-brown ink, and pressing it by hand is a small ritual we genuinely enjoy. It’s rhythmic. Meditative. A reminder to slow down and be present with the work.

That deep red mark is more than a logo. It’s a symbol of connection—one name that means something special to each of us.

That name represents someone we love: our teacher, leader, and friend. It represents meaningful work, creative expression, and the relationships we’ve built over years of coffee, conversation, and community.

We’re a crew of sensitive, curious craftspeople who still prefer to write many of our notes by hand for the same reason. In a world moving faster every day, we find value in the connection between head, heart, and hands.

Many of the small details you see around our caffè and roastery are intentional. Some support sustainability. Some preserve tradition. Some simply remind us that craftsmanship is not just about the final product, but about how we choose to make it.

These values define not only our family business, but the people behind it.

One interesting fact you may not know about Andrea Spella… he knows these Rancilio machines inside and out like a mechanic who’s niche training is classic cars. Overtime, this dedication to the mechanics of our craft has allowed him to fix all kinds of machinery himself when things break or need a tune up. He’s not only able to program these classic Italian machines for Spella Caffè’s specific needs and style, but he’s been a part of the distribution, installment, and maintenance of coffee machinery in many local markets, restaurants, and cafes! Grinders, brewers, washers, espresso machines… you name it! .usa definitely found a special place in his heart and ours— we all love these classic machines and we’re grateful that he’s always put in the extra effort to keep them in tip top shape for us and our partners- largely dedicating his time to support, inspection, quality control, and ongoing upkeep!
