Smitty Abare Memorial Christmas Fundraiser
Music Mountain Compost is bringing back its holiday gift giveaway drive. Your family or another family in need could win $100 in holiday gifts for children!

Beginning in 2021, Zach Cavacas (Owner, Music Mountain Compost) and his longtime childhood friend and assistant, Tim “Smitty” Abare joined forces to help Music Mountain Compost sponsor a holiday gift drive to assist families in need during the holiday season. Tragically, in 2023, Smitty passed away unexpectedly and Zach decided to take the next few seasons off. However, this year, the gift drive is being revived and will be named in memory of Smitty.

In years past, the drive has raised over $4,600, and helped 46 individual families receive each $100 in toys and gifts. Music Mountain Compost will be accepting nominees for families in need as well as financial donations between the dates of November 16th and December 10th. Once all of the donations and nominees have have been received, names will be drawn, correlating to the amount of money raised, for families to receive $100 each in toys and gifts until the total donation amount has been met.

That time of year. The Stafford Technical Center does a yearly yard clean up for local elderly people. I go in after and grab the leaves and utilize them for composting. Not only does this help local folks, it helps me have more carbon for composting.

Prepping for winter at the compost facility. That is just a tiny amount of soil that will be ready to go in the spring. Spent this weekend moving piles, making room for new wind rows of compost.

Winter is on its way, and Music Mountain Compost can help make composting easy. We offer residential and commercial services. Residential we provide a bucket and pickup every other week. All food waste is accepted including meat and bones, as well as all compostable products , and pizza boxes. Bucket is cleaned every time. You also receive free bagged yard waste pickup, and 10 percent off composted soil. Cost is $22 a month. Commercial we use 45 galllon bins, emptied weekly or biweekly. Cost is $22 per bin.
