The festival created 27 years ago by Black artists and educators in Sewickley returns with free live performances, readings, and visual art, as well as a beer garden from the founder of Barrel and Flow.
1 Day Away from Kickoff! Mavuno 2023 Festival and Exhibition is a free 2-day event starting tomorrow, with a program and opening reception in the community room at Sweetwater Center for the Arts, followed by a festival on Saturday at Riverfront Park!
In Life… Mavuno Exhibition Opening Reception starts at 5pm and will feature artists Deavron Dailey, Janet Watkins, Marlon Gist, Marce Nixon and Norman Brown with live poetry from Sweetwater board member Bonita Lee Penn. Poets include Veronica Corpuz, Gwendolyn A. Mitchell, Doralee Brooks.

Cold hard truth! This is business, don’t forget.
You’re always going to have people that don’t like you. They may think you’re too this or too that. It’s not about being liked, it’s whether or not they RESPECT you and what you do that matters.
I’ve seen this so many times in my career and business as well, you don’t always have to like the people who work for you but you have to show them respect, and they have to reciprocate that.
I constantly have entrepreneurs looking for investments with businesses that may not quite be there yet, but they really show a hustle and grit that says “I’m going to win, no matter what”. It’s undeniable, and it’s something you can’t help but respect. I will tell you, I’d place a bet quicker on that guy any day, regardless of whether I like him or not.
