This week at High Tide Pies, I’m introducing something a little special: Sour Orange Pie minis — a true old-school Florida dessert.

Before Key Lime Pie became the state’s most famous pie, many Floridians were baking pies with sour oranges. The flavor is bright, citrusy, and perfectly balanced — a little like key lime pie’s deeper, more complex cousin.

These mini pies are made with fresh sour orange juice, baked in a graham cracker crust, and finished with homemade whipped cream.

I was lucky enough to find fresh sour oranges at the farmers market, so I made a very small batch to share. Because the fruit is hard to come by, these will be available only while they last.
