Progress is still slow, but I'm seeing hints of the green layer under the pink in the plying ball. While I'm enjoying the novelty of this project, I am secretly relieved that it wasn't a full 4oz braid of wool.

Maybe the next time this mood strikes, I'll try a new approach to see how the end result differs.

Finished the previous bobbin a few days ago but hadn't swapped out to this spin until today. It needed time to rest, chain-plying is easier with sleepy singles, and it allows for crocheting with less corkscrews.

The plan is to crochet a leaf or flower in the green and pink sections of the singles and then chain-ply it into place. I've been parking my chain loop on my phone stand while I pause to crochet with a size 4-steel hook. The hook is huge compared to the singles, but smaller would make it harder to work.

Making progress with this spin, not quite sure if a 2-ply or three would be better. A 2-ply would be strong enough to work on a zoom loom, but a 3-ply would smooth out some of the rough bits with this spin. Previous experience prepared me for the debris of tiny fibers falling off during the drafting. Current experience has helped speed up progress with the short/long fibers to make a viable singles.

Started working on another spinning project after tearing down the wheel for a very thorough cleaning. There was a buildup of dirt and fiber around the treadles causing very loud squeaking. This spin is a revisit of one of my very first fiber suppliers: . Back then I had purchased their 3 pound box of mill ends to practice spinning. This time it's a much smaller bag. Aiming for a 3 ply sock yarn, but I'll be happy with any size. 😁

Finished the singles last night, and then promptly spent about 15 minutes looking for my plying rock. 😂 About 1.5 inches...

Finished the singles last night, and then promptly spent about 15 minutes looking for my plying rock. 😂 About 1.5 inches long, half smooth/half broken. Its shape forces me to wrap gently or risk cutting the yarn. Eventually, it shifts from an odd shaped nugget into a manageable round ball to ply from.

But you've spun that in the brown alpaca? Yes, but that was 4-ply, this is a 2-ply! 289 yards, I'm super happy with how it turned out. ☺️

Currently on the wheel is this lovely batt from . I found it hidden in the deep stash, not sure from how long ago. I was looking for something that I could work on during and something that I could work on letting go with to result in a more thick yarn.

I'm enjoying the spin immensely, the inclusions leave me hoping that they'll survive the ply and washing stages. I'm not sure what this will grow up to be beyond a 4oz, 2-ply, spun from a stripped batt in a mid-back draw with twist between the hands.

I'll be sure to share a photo when it's done.☺️
