As we continue settling into our new routine with the big kids home for summer break and sweet Evelyn finally home, keep an eye out for some pop-up sales! We’re slowly getting back into the swing of things and can’t wait to start baking for you all again.

To start, we’ll likely be offering Magaly’s Gourmet Cookies, Baked and Boujee Cookies, cupcakes, and maybe even a few cake pops. Supplies will be limited, so be sure to grab them while they last!

We’re also reopening our books for custom orders. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, baby shower, wedding, special event, or simply treating yourself, we’d love to help make it extra sweet. Please allow at least two weeks’ notice for custom orders so we can prepare everything properly.

We are incredibly grateful for the love, support, patience, and prayers you’ve shown our family over the past few months. We look forward to seeing everyone again and bringing you the best goodies we can possibly create.

We have the amazing news everybody has been waiting for… sweet baby Evelyn is HOME! 💜

She was released a couple weeks ago, but her and her momma have taken the time to settle in, go to lots of doctor appointments, and enjoy some very well deserved snuggle time.

The past 3 months have been a teeter totter of emotions — the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. We delayed announcing she was home because after her surgery announcement, her sodium levels dropped and our girl suffered not one, but two seizures. Thankfully, Magaly was with her and was able to catch them immediately, but it also caused her to witness things no parent should ever have to see. After observation, testing, and an EEG, doctors determined Evelyn did not suffer any damage to her heart, brain, or organs. She was truly covered in God’s amazing glory.

Evelyn was originally going to be sent home on an NG tube, however, Magaly’s hard work and perseverance paid off and she was able to come home without it! Evelyn can only breastfeed right now because she still aspirates badly when attempting to bottle feed. Because of the feeding situation, Magaly cannot look for a job at this time as Evelyn requires around-the-clock care (and believe me, we’ve tried every bottle and ni**le possible).

After visits with speech, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, it was determined that our girl has a double cheek tie, an upper lip tie, and a tongue tie. At this time they are not recommending revision since it is not impacting her weight gain or breastfeeding.

As of Monday, May 11, baby girl officially broke the 10 pound mark weighing a whopping 10lbs 3.5oz, and she turned 3 months old on Saturday, May 16th. She may be tiny (for our family), but she is mighty! She is doing well holding her head up and now that sternal precautions are over, she is starting to work on tummy time.

We have been so blessed by all of your prayers, love, and support throughout this journey, but it is not over yet. Evelyn still has many appointments ahead of her and will continue seeing cardiology throughout her life. She is also still on multiple medications around the clock.

If you feel led to help, we are attaching the GoFundMe, Venmo, and CashApp to help assist Magaly with truck payments, insurance, and daily expenses while she continues caring for sweet baby Evelyn. Every prayer, share, and donation means more than we could ever express.

Thank you all for loving our girl so fiercely. 💜

Help me wish my biggest sidekick and assistant baker a very happy 7th birthday! 🎉🎂💖

05/13/2026

Four abnormalities.
One heart.
This week we are breaking down each one.
Today —
we start with the first.
Ventricular Septal Defect.
VSD.
Inside a normal heart —
the two lower chambers are separated by a wall.
It is called the septum.
And its job is simple but critical.
Keep the right side and the left side completely separate.
Because the right side carries oxygen poor blood.
Blood that has already been used.
Blood that needs to go to the lungs to pick up oxygen.
And the left side carries oxygen rich blood.
Blood that has just come back from the lungs.
Blood that is ready to go out to the body.
These two things —
were never supposed to mix.
The wall exists to make sure they don't.
In a child with Tetralogy of Fallot —
that wall has a hole in it.
A ventricular septal defect.
And through that hole —
the blood mixes.
Oxygen rich and oxygen poor.
Together.
When they were never designed to be together.
Here is why that matters so much.
The blood that goes out to the body —
is supposed to be fully oxygenated.
Carrying everything the brain and the organs and every cell in the body needs to function.
But when oxygen rich and oxygen poor blood mix through that hole —
the blood going out to the body is diluted.
It is carrying less oxygen than it should.
Less than the brain needs.
Less than the organs need.
Less than the body needs to grow and thrive and develop the way a child should.
And in Tetralogy of Fallot —
this is just the first of four problems.
The VSD does not exist alone.
It exists alongside pulmonary stenosis.
Alongside an overriding aorta.
Alongside right ventricular hypertrophy.
All four working together.
All four compounding each other.
All four making the heart work in ways it was never designed to work.
And a child is living inside all of it.
Growing.
Playing.
Laughing.
Loving.
With a heart that is doing its absolute best —
with a wall that has a hole in it —
and three other abnormalities alongside it.
That is what a TOF warrior is carrying.
Every single day.
And they carry it with a strength that will never stop taking my breath away.

Our Evelyn 💜

CHD Fact of the Day 🫀One thing people don’t see when it comes to CHD…

💊 The medications.

Heart babies—especially those with single ventricle physiology—are often on multiple medications, multiple times a day ⏰

And not just for a short time… sometimes for months or years.

Let’s break it down in simple terms 👇

💧💊 Diuretics (“water pills”)
Examples: Lasix (furosemide), Spironolactone

➡️ These help remove extra fluid so the heart ❤️ and lungs 🫁 don’t get overwhelmed

⚠️ Side effects:
• Dehydration 💦
• Electrolyte imbalances ⚡ (low potassium, sodium issues)
• Frequent urination 🚼
• Irritability or fatigue 😴

❤️💊 ACE Inhibitors (heart support meds)
Examples: Enalapril, Captopril

➡️ Help the heart pump more efficiently & reduce strain

⚠️ Side effects:
• Low blood pressure 📉
• Dizziness 😵‍💫
• Kidney stress (needs lab checks 🧪)

🩸💊 Blood Thinners / Anticoagulants
Examples: Aspirin, Lovenox, Heparin

➡️ Help prevent dangerous blood clots

⚠️ Side effects:
• Easy bruising 🟣
• Bleeding risk 🩸
• Frequent blood draws 🧪

🫁✨ Oxygen support (not a medication—but treated like one)

➡️ Helps keep oxygen levels stable when the heart can’t fully do it

🍼💊 Reflux / GI medications
Examples: Pepcid, Omeprazole

➡️ Help with feeding struggles & reflux

⚠️ Side effects:
• Stomach discomfort 🤢
• Changes in digestion

🍼➕ Fortifiers / high-calorie supplements

➡️ Added to feeds to help babies gain weight ⚖️
Because they burn so many calories just breathing & circulating

😴💉 Sedation medications (for procedures)

➡️ Used for echos, MRIs, cath lab

⚠️ Higher risk in CHD kids because:
• Oxygen levels are already fragile 🫁
• Circulation isn’t typical ❤️

📊 The reality of daily life:

Many CHD babies take:
• 2–5+ medications 💊💊💊
• 2–4 times per day ⏰
• Sometimes even overnight 🌙

And doses change constantly based on:
• Weight ⚖️
• Oxygen levels 🫁
• Lab results 🧪
• Surgical stage ❤️

➡️ Parents are basically running a mini pharmacy at home 🏥

💔 The part people don’t see:

• Middle-of-the-night meds 🌙⏰
• Measuring exact doses every time 📏
• Watching closely for side effects 👀
• Coordinating feeds + meds 🍼💊
• Stressing over every tiny change 😞

One missed dose can matter.
One wrong dose can matter.

It’s constant.

❤️ And all of this…
just to keep their tiny hearts stable enough for the next step.

CHD isn’t just surgeries.

It’s daily, around-the-clock care that most people will never see.

Life has kept me busier than I’ve ever been lately, but I promise cupcake flights are still coming as soon as I possibly can! 💕

Over the last couple of months, I’ve only been able to take on a few special projects, including:

🩵 Blue Jean Baby cake pops
🍎 Teacher Appreciation treats
🌭 “A Wienie Bit Older” cake for a special girl’s 8th birthday

Thank you all for continuing to support Farmhouse Sweets through this season. Your love, patience, and orders mean more than you know. 💗

Now the important question…
Who would be interested in vanilla bean cheesecake slices next week? 👀🍰
