Nicole is selling her Elephant Links for Alzheimer's Disease at Hans's Bakery on Main. $1.00/link and all money she raises is donated to Alzheimer's for research and treatment to find the "link" for Alzheimer's. My Grampa Bradley died 34 years ago from Alzheimer’s disease. My Gramma Bradley died 15 years ago from Alzheimer’s disease. Grampa lived with Alzheimer’s for 13 years. Gramma lived with it for 14 years. For a total of 27 years, my Mom watched her Mom and Dad fade away from life. She saw her Dad, who was an engineer for Harrison Radiator for 30 years, who owned his own business, DL Bradley and Son, who loved to fish, fix cars, golf and took care of his family to a man who forgot who she was, wore diapers and only said “What’s on the agenda”. He ended up living in a nursing home when he became aggressive towards her and Gramma couldn’t take care of him anymore. She would take my brother Casey and I to visit him but he didn’t know us. We would walk him down the hall and he would only say “what’s on the agenda”. Three days before he died, Mom went to visit him. He got up out of the chair, walked “her” down the halls and when she had to leave, he grabbed her hand and didn’t want to let go. Three days later, she knew that was his way of saying good-bye.
A few years later, Gramma Bradley who used to be very active became increasingly forgetful, got lost when driving and couldn’t take care of herself anymore. She too, had to go to a nursing home where Mom would take me to visit. Gramma didn’t know who we were. She spoke “gibberish” and the only thing Gramma did was cuddle the doll, Andrew that her 4 children got for her. She loved Andrew, but didn’t know who her 4 children or 7 grandchildren were. Mom cried every time we left. Mom was by Gramma’s bedside holding her hand when she took her last breath.
So, my Mom has dealt with watching loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease for 47 years. Her Dad, her Mom, 2 Aunts, her father-in-law and now another family member has been diagnosed.
I tell you this story because I worry and wonder if my Mom will get Alzheimer’s Disease. If she does, what will happen to her? I love her and I need her. I don’t want her to fade away from life like Gramma and Grampa Bradley did. I don’t want her not to know who I am…
That is why I am again selling my “Elephant Links” for Alzheimer’s. For every “Link” I sell for $1.00, I tape them together and stretch them down Main St in Medina the night before the Alzheimer’s Walk which is October 10, 2026 this year at State Street Park. All the money I raise goes directly to Alzheimer’s for research to help find the “Link” to Alzheimer’s. Thank you in advance for supporting this cause. I pray my Mom does not have to suffer through this horrifying disease.
