Burnout.

What a word. I had a raw conversation with a group of trusted people yesterday, and one of them asked me my definition of burnout, and I said "when I physically can't do what I need to do anymore". Now that I'm writing it down, that seems pretty ridiculous, doesn't it? To keep going until my body gives out? I realize for me specifically, that would take a whole lot, but why do I push it so far?

There are a number of expectations I often have in my head, things I'm convinced I have to do because if I don't, who will? Is that me, or something I'm filled with from outside influences? Does it matter?

I want to be everything for everyone, all the time. A Mom. Wife. Business owner. Volunteer. Friend. Daughter. Sister. Confidant. Someone that shows up. Often, I achieve those statuses. But how close am I to burnout? No clue, because I can't realistically define it...

Pray tell- what is your definition of burnout? What signals you to draw the line? Say no? What even is that word...

What a privilege to (mostly) make my own rules

Someone reached out to me the other day after my be kind/ assumptions post, with the intention of telling me to check my privilege. It was a tad confusing since the point of my post was to remind people to NOT make assumptions about people and to be kind because we never know what someone has been through up to that point. But hey- they have the same freedoms I do, so go for it!

I'm aware of the privilege I have regardless of my past and my gender, and go out of my way to try to be kind to others because of it. You never know what could happen to you or someone you care about- so maybe consider checking your privilege

STOP ASSUMING YOU KNOW SOMEONE'S LIFE

I don't care what industry you're in or what industry you're working with/ hiring. You don't know what that individual has done leading up to this moment.

There are stigmas around the food and bev industry that we're uneducated and this was a fallback. Guess what? I chose to do this!

I had a lovely conversation with an individual I won't name that was mansplaining some things regarding my bookkeeping. Here's the thing: I don't need anyone to do my books, or my taxes, or anything else in that realm. I have a degree. In finance. I choose to pay someone to do it because I want to utilize my time on other things. But when an individual says "I realize most of this is going over your head" I honestly didn't even hear the rest of his sentence because I was red hot.

Surprise! Suzy Homemaker here is an EDUCATED entrepreneur. And congratulations she was able to bite her tongue.

Please, for the love of cinnamon rolls, don't ever assume you know Jack about anyone's life or why they do what they do. That's just rude... we work hard just like (most) everyone else. We chose our industry just like you did. Maybe take a moment and ask a question if you're unsure whether you're on the same page or not...
