Today is the one year anniversary of The Cake Exchange. 🎂

I didn’t plan one for this year, and honestly, I haven’t posted on this page much at all. It’s been a very busy and very tough year, and I’ve had a lot of things to figure out behind the scenes.

Last year’s Cake Exchange was my first fundraiser. I really didn’t know what I was doing, but I’m still so proud of myself for making it happen. It was a huge learning experience for me, and while things don’t always go the way you hope they will, I’m grateful for everything that came from it.

One of the biggest things is that more people know who we are now, and that’s something I’m incredibly thankful for. At the same time, I think we’re all feeling the current economy in one way or another. I know cake isn’t a necessity, and I truly appreciate every single person who has continued to support us this past year, especially when everyone is being a little more careful with where their money goes.

I think a lot of small business owners can relate to being in a pretty uncertain place right now. Costs keep going up, local businesses are shutting down, and it can be a little scary trying to figure out what the future is going to look like.

I would have loved to do the Cake Exchange again this year, but it just couldn’t be made to work, and that’s okay.

The Cake Exchange isn’t gone forever. We will be back. ❤️

For now, we have to focus on the bread and butter (or in our case, the cake & frosting 😂) of the business and make sure we’re doing what we need to do to keep The Northern Star Bakery going.

I’m not really sure what this next chapter is going to look like, but I guess that’s part of the fun of building something of your own. There will probably be a few more twists and turns along the way, but I’m not ready to give up on this dream.

Thank you to everyone who has stuck around, placed an order, shared a post, told a friend about us, or supported me in any way over the last year. It really does mean more than you know.

We’ll continue offering custom orders, and we’ll also be starting cake decorating classes again this fall! 🎂 Follow along so you don’t miss when classes become available.
