Update on last week's freeze.
It's been a week since it dropped to 23 degrees while the fruit trees were mostly in full blossom.
The news isn't great.
It looks like we lost most, if not all, of the UPick Sweet Cherry crop. We are holding out hope that there are blossoms deep in the clusters that will open and be viable. We have so many trees, that even a 2 or 3% crop will be enough to open the orchard. The Sour Cherries fared a little better and are just fully blossoming now. Those look to be about 30% viable. The other fruit trees (Peaches, Apples and Pears) are yet to be determined. Although, the few flowers that have opened in those are looking marginal too.
Luckily we have LOCAL partner farms that grow everything in the same way we do who's blossoms weren't as far along as ours. As of now, they expect to be able to fill the voids we will have on the fruit stand.
So - now we wait. We'll keep you all posted as the season progresses.
