Policy Change:
Last year I pledged to donate 10% of sourdough sales to the ACLU. At the time, it helped me feel better in a world descending into darkness. Maybe it helped you too. However, the reality of the situation is grim, and we cannot bake sale our way out it. The truth is, capitalism and true activism do not make good bedfellows. As much as I tell myself this isn’t a capitalist venture, that I’m providing an alternative, local, ethical, and all that jazz. It is a business, and the concept of tying much-needed donations to sales makes me uncomfortable.
With that said, I will no longer be donating 10% to any specific charity. I have established a sustaining gift with the ACLU moving forward that will not be dependent on sales and have donated over the 10% pledge for 2025. I encourage everyone who is disturbed by what is going on to engage in more direct action. That looks different for everyone. Get out there, lend a hand, and yes, give money. I’ll continue to support and resist in my own way. Please reach out if I can help. I am always happy to collaborate with anyone trying to do some good in the world.
