My name is Paulo, owner of Bread & Culture. My journey with bread started back in 2018. I always had a close relationship with food. My fondest experiences with incredible meals are tied to humble moments in my mom’s kitchen. Her oxtail soup always hits! For nearly twenty years, I worked in the school system as a school counselor, where I developed great relationships with people and became an important person in the educational journeys of my students…. I watched them come in as young children and sent them off as young adults. That part of my professional career is behind me but my counseling background has helped me immensely as I’ve embraced my role as business owner. This change involved risk. I took a chance on myself in the interest of my overall well-being; making bread gave me life. Bread & Culture started back in 2019 and honestly… I am continuously focused on making the perfect loaf of bread. As owner and baker, I am part of every single dough that makes it out of our kitchen. My simple philosophy when cooking food is: feed our guests the food that I would trust feeding to my children. Being a dad is my most fulfilling role in life. My family means everything to me. At B&C, we don’t cut corners. We use whole ingredients and never compromise quality. I had a moment of frustration last week… I went to the bank (covered in flour) after a 13 hour shift. I proudly wear my B&C gear to work every day… I stood next to someone who owns a commercial bakery who looked over at me and said, “I’ve heard about you. There are always lines around the block. But you are closed more than you are open.” I very politely explained to the person in fancy dress clothes… no, no. We work 6 days a week to be open for 4. We don’t outsource any of the food we sell. Some people may wonder, why is the food so expensive? The cost of goods are rising every week…AND our focus is to support local agriculture, use organic flour, stone milled grains, make our own specialty drinks and syrups, and use the highest quality coffee. Our food is 100% scratch made. We are grateful to the wonderful humans who come from near & far. B&C’s second location is inevitable. Thank you for the love 💚
