Does the starter make a difference??
In general, yes, starter health & maintenance makes or breaks your bread. BUT what if I take my usual starter & compare it with Sourdough Educator & Microbakery • Parker Cook dehydrated starter?
Over the course of too many reels (scroll back if you’re curious!!) I hydrated & fed Sourdough Educator & Microbakery • Parker Cook dehydrated starter according to package instructions. The starter was bubbly and active by day 4! I gave it an extra day to mature alongside my starter & started dough day for a little side by side action.
Super pleased that I could make a great loaf in less than a week with the newly hydrated starter!!
And slightly surprised that there was no noticeable taste or texture differences between loaves.
My starter was quicker to rise and fall, but once mixed in these starters acted very much the same.
Now, do I combine the two bacteria cultures I’ve been tending? Keep them separate? Scrap one (this feels cruel 🫣)?
Thanks for coming along!!
