Over the last two weeks, I was reminded why I opened River Road. We were sent this wedding invitation along with the card that told this couples story, our shop was a central location to their love story. There also have been customers whom we care deeply about who chose to come and grieve here with a cup of coffee in hand over the last few weeks. Someone last week told me "your coffee shop is such a safe place..a gift to our community." There is no greater compliment I could hope for than that.
It's easy to get defeated as a small business owner whether it be comparison from social media, someone sharing why they don't like us (🤪), or the always rising costs of operating a brick & mortar.
These stories refocused my soul for why I opened the doors of River Road.I wanted to offer my community a space for life to occur. A safe place to hold a cup of coffee and talk about some of your greatest pain. A place that offered space for you and your person to fall in love. A place to feel less alone and more connected. A place that hosts events and does fun things to get people out and about. A place for community and we just happen to have Coffee & Popsicles too.
I hope this stirs you to connect with someone in your life through conversation while holding a cup of coffee. To look a little less at social media (ironic that I'm posting this on socials) and maybe invite someone out to meet up for popsicles. To stop and read a book for hours in a coffee shop on a comfy couch. To share a kind word to your friend, family, coworker, or local business owner.
I've been reminded that we're here for connection and community, everything else is just a bonus.
