Level 2 Cakestravaganza Camp is for rising 6th graders and up who love to bake and want to learn more about the world of cake decorating.

2 mini 2-day sessions + CUPCAKE WARS (We bake each day in this camp!)
Monday – Friday (a la carte)
9:00 – 3:00

Session 1, Focus on Buttercream: July 13-14 ($300)

Monday: Bake vanilla cakes and learn to torte, fill and ice them with Italian buttercream using food coloring to create a modern “watercolor” design. Learn the proper way to use a piping bag and finish off the cake with buttercream rosettes and metallic dragees.

Tuesday: Cupcake Bouquets – We will bake 7 different flavors of cake and learn the art of piping (American) buttercream flowers using a variety of tips. Each student will assemble a bright and colorful mini cupcake cake jar bouquet that is almost too pretty to eat.

Session 2, Focus on Fondant: July 15-16 ($300)

Wednesday: Summertime Cupcakes – We will bake cupcakes in a variety of flavors and introduce campers to fondant , which we will use to make 6 adorable summer-themed cupcakes.

Thursday: We start the day with small group baking, and everyone can customize the filling of their cakes with their favorite flavor profiles. Learn to torte, layer, crumb-coat, and cover cakes with fondant. With access to hundreds of cutters, tools and molds, each student can create a unique design for their 6″ round layer cake.

CUPCAKE WARS: Friday, July 17th ($155)

(must also be signed up for Sessions 1 and/or 2, pizza lunch provided)

Kids will team up and create their own creative cupcake that’s best not only in taste, but also in design, originality, and presentation. There will be a surprise twist in the middle of the competition to keep these advanced bakers on their toes! Each camper may invite a friend or family member to arrive during the last 30 minutes of camp to participate as a blind judge and vote for their favorite cupcake.

It was so nice to be asked to provide a display cake at one of my favorite local venues, the Grand Tasting last month! It’s been probably 10 years since I last designed a faux cake at my own discretion and it’s pretty fun to feel like a hobby decorator once in a while. In typical “me” fashion, I came up with the design 3 days before the event, with the help of an inspiration board. Hobbyists procrastinate just the same. 😬
