Behind the scenes: ‘Dive into Five’ / Mermaid cake
Brief: Dive into 5/Mermaid
Design Style: Showstopper
Flavor: Classic vanilla

Each detail was made by hand out of completely edible materials.
Tail: rice krispie treats covered in scales of fondant and dusted with edible shimmer
Waves: rice paper colored, molded, then fried to look like crashing surf
Coral: each tiny piece sculpted by hand out of fondant
Acrylic tiers: filled with real water, faux aquarium fauna, floating jellies, and a swimming fish!

Dive into Five! Mermaid/under the sea cakes are one of my favorite themes to create. I made my daughter a diving mermaid cake for her 1st birthday (see last photo) and I wanted to upgrade the design for my Goddaughter’s 5th birthday! I really went for it with acrylic tiers filled with water, coral, crabs, sting rays, floating jellies and a swimming fish!
