Completed after a mere 42 years!

Today our shop completed a summer project for Trinity Lutheran Church in Brillion, Wisconsin on their Dobson pipe organ. The work consisted of some mechanical repairs and cleaning, but also included the installation of the Swell Celeste, a stop that was prepared for in 1984, but not purchased until this summer. The Swell Gedact was also rebuilt with new spiral tuning canisters for improved tuning stability. This work was done in collaboration with Dobson Pipe Organ Builders supplying the new pipework. Wahl Organbuilders performed all on site work.

Today we stopped by our instrument at Moores School of Music and delivered a new adjustable bench for the students to use. We made this instrument in 2003 for a Michigan Residence. We moved it to UH in the summer of 2018.

Thanks to the team at Wahl for building us an adjustable bench for their practice instrument in room 244!

Today we completed a house organ for a client in Cypress, Texas. This four-rank organ is a sister instrument to our 2021 Groton School organ, albeit with different casework and an added manual coupler.

The spare contemporary casework is of black walnut with ash slats for the upper grilles.

Among the other novel aspects of this project is the inclusion of an Espressivo system for Midi out, a first time for our shop. The client is a music engraver, so this will aid him greatly in his work.

A small local project here. Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin has a wonderful organ program led by professor Daniel Schwandt. They hired us to make a new adjustable-height bench for their fine Ruggles practice organ. Now all students can reach the pedals comfortably. This bench was made of black walnut to match the Ruggles casework.

This afternoon we wrapped up our latest project, a small organ we built for a Grand Rapids, Michigan residence. The organ has eight stops over two manuals and pedal within a freestanding casework.

Mechanical key and stop actions

The casework is of riftsawn white oak painted with linseed oil paint of seven different colors plus 23k gold leaf. The keydesk is of white oak, walnut, holly, and boxwood. The keys are of cow bone and blackwood.

The majority of the metal pipework was made by Luca Scotti of Scotti Giuseppe of Crema, much of it after late 19th century patterns. The Rohrflute is from an E.&G.G. Hook organ from 1860. The wood pipes were made in the Wahl workshop.

Ronald Wahl, Christoph Wahl, and Jonathan Borchardt designed, constructed, voiced, and installed the instrument.

Moldings all completed, now reassembled for fitting pipeshades. We’ll paint and gild next before final assembly.

Today we’re at the beautiful 1985 J. W. Walker organ at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Appleton, Wisconsin. During our last visit we discovered some damage to the lowest C motor of the Swell Fagotto. We cast a shoulder on the block and made a new wire to bring the pipe back to good condition.
