🛡️ PROTECT OUR FAIRGROUNDS 🛡️

So many of you have already contacted your Alpena County Commissioners, and they now know exactly where we stand on the proposed Blackwater NE deal! (And if you haven’t reached out yet, please do it today, and keep contacting them!)

Now it’s time to elevate our voices to the next level.

We need our state and federal elected officials to hear from Alpena County residents directly about the tangible impacts this long-term lease would have on our public fairgrounds: loss of traditional fair and 4-H access, increased noise and traffic from large-scale concerts and events, strain on local infrastructure, and concerns over rushed procedures and transparency.

Even 50 calls or emails to any of these offices can make a real difference. Don’t stop after one try, follow up every couple of days with additional facts if you have them. Please, no overtly political comments! These individuals represent us, regardless of party.

👉 Start with your connection (“I’m a lifelong Alpena resident / 4-H parent / taxpayer / fairgrounds user…”)
👉 Stick to specific, tangible harms (noise, traffic, loss of community access, procedural concerns, wildlife sanctuary impacts)
👉 Stay respectful and fact-based
👉 Ask them to publicly comment and support protections for our historic fairgrounds

If we all speak up together with clear, grounded concerns, they will have to respond. Together, we will win. As the poet Virgil wrote: “Do not give in to misfortunes, but advance ever more boldly against them.”

Dear Alpena... stand up to your elected officials and public servants, do not allow them to decide for Us what to do with Our Fairgrounds and other properties. This land has been fought to be protected several times now... let's do it again! 🤔🌹❤️🎡🎠🐦🪺

Dear County Commissioners and City Officials/Police Chief... take notes... this is coming soon to your meetings if you keep pushing leasing off our public property and other nonsense. Be prepared to sit there and take vehement responses towards you and your selfish decisions, because it is not illegal and all your little "decorum rules" are unconstitutional, null, and void for any citizen to obey. Those rules/policies are for YOU to follow, not We The People. As long as not fighting words are used citizens can say whatever they'd like to you without fear of police/legal retaliation. Enjoy when people finally wake up to that and quit caring you schedule meetings during work hours etc. And show up anyway... you're in for an rude awakening if you keep just doing whatever you want like this instead of working for We The People and our wishes... 🌹 ❤️🎡🎠🐦🪺
