CLBS Jobs This is the page of CLBS Ltd. CLBS was founded in 2005. The CLBS page provides a window into life at CLBS and in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The company initially started as a small team providing customer care services to European customers. Steadily through the popularity and professionalism shown from the service, the company expanded to becoming one of the biggest employers for foreigners in Chiang Mai, Thailand. On the page we share stories from around Asia and provide insight to the history and background of the culture of Thailand as well as sharing with you an inside view of living in Chiang Mai and working at CLBS. CLBS’s page is purely an informative and fun board to display stories and pictures in and around Chiang Mai, Thailand as well as life at CLBS. Posts on our wall will be answered. CLBS Cooking Competition: September Edition! 👩‍🍳🔥

This competition isn’t about who cooks better. It’s about sharing our culture, our stories, and the food we grew up with, giving our international community a chance to discover something new. ❤️

This month, Chef Mara shared recipes close to her heart, inspired by her Mum, perfected over time, and served with plenty of love. 📞👩‍🍳

Some of us even discovered a new favorite 🥗 Styrian Salad, a fresh Austrian-style salad finished with rich, nutty pumpkin seed oil. And the Hungarian Goulash? 🍲 Some said it tasted just like something their own mum would make. ❤️

And that’s how September’s cooking competition story was served with love, laughter, and lots of flavor! 🔥✨

Thai slang is one of the fastest ways to sound friendly and connect with locals—when you use it in the right moment. You’ll hear “555” (haha) in chats, “กินข้าวยัง?” (have you eaten?) as a warm greeting, and “ชิลๆ” (chill) when people want you to relax. Try “โอเคนะ” (it’s okay) for reassurance, and “จัดไป!” (go for it!) to hype someone up. But be careful: slang can feel too casual with elders, teachers, or in formal workplaces—switch to polite Thai when respect is expected. Did you know Thai script doesn’t use spaces between words the way most European languages do? Instead, spacing is often used between sentences or to separate clauses, which can feel like reading a “continuous stream” at first. Another surprise: Thai has 5 tones, so the same consonant-vowel pattern can mean completely different things depending on tone. Thai writing is also famous for its “stack” of marks—tone marks and vowel signs can appear above, below, before, or after a consonant, so your eyes learn to scan in multiple directions. And while modern Thai uses Arabic numerals a lot, Thai numerals are still around and can pop up in formal contexts. Many learners also love how Thai has polite particles (like adding a softener at the end of a sentence) that can change the vibe without changing the meaning. Thai tones can feel tricky at first, but they’re simply pitch patterns that change a word’s meaning. Thai has five tones: mid, low, falling, high, and rising—so the same syllable can mean different things depending on the tone. A beginner-friendly way to start is with one syllable like “maa”: mid (มา) = come, low (ม่า) = (as in) grandma (dialect/usage varies), falling (ม้า) = horse, high (ม๊า) = mom (informal), rising (หมา) = dog (different spelling, but great for contrast). Don’t worry about reading Thai yet—focus on hearing the pitch movement: flat, down, down-then-drop, up, and up-then-up. Train your ear by listening to short pairs daily, then record yourself and compare your pitch shape, not your volume. The biggest pitfall is speaking with English “stress” instead of a clear tone contour, so aim for steady airflow and consistent pitch changes.
