The beginning of Tavu.

Growing up in Fiji was like this, and still is. Mom and dad had always had a space for open fire - tavu, to cook on open fire. We prepared everything on this. From boiling cassava, frying fish on early Saturday afternoons, charred eggplant and making Nena's special guava jam.

I can still hear Nenas voice yelling from the room. " Una na buka Una, lei raica na jamu" Unaaaaaaah the Jam, the JAMMMM, go and make sure the fire is on!!!

I little exaggeration there, but nah true story and for real, she was yelling as if a tsunami was around the corner.

Tavu is about what this new chapter of life in the kitchen is for me, and not just in baking.
