Back in the studio! Did a much-needed big studio cleanse and mixed a batch of amazing colourful glazes too! ☺️ I’m working on new projects, inspired by the colours and patterns of this summer — both far away and right here at home in Drenthe.

If I don’t know where to start, I grab my sketchbook and begin with the base of everything: colours and patterns!

I describe my work often as 'Pattern Soup' because that's exactly what my brain does with the input the world gives it: a mixture of colours, patterns, textures - like a collage. Or: a fun visual puzzle.
My work is art to use or to enjoy. Handmade from porcelain, patterned by hand, no two the same

My patterns might look random, easy, even careless — but they're not. 😊
Every "random" pattern takes time, attention, and a lot of testing. I love picking a colour palet and enjoy noticing patterns in nature or in ordinary things. All part of the proces.

In this (messy😉) colourful studio upstairs in our wooden self-built family home, all my ceramic designs and art are handmade! By me, preferably all by myself, all alone, with some music on or a nice podcast 🙃
And I'm so lucky to have enough space for all the clay bodies, glazes, pigments, brushes, design samples, books, buckets of dirty water, and tools.

Summer in my studio 🌞🪻
Sneaking off to my studio whenever I get the chance ☺️ Our girls are home from school, so in between family festivals, buying ice from Mia’s handmade ice cream stand, picking flowers from our garden, enjoying the weather, participating a perfume workshop with my bestie, I’m working on new things! Summer is a great time to reflect, slow down and think about what gives me energy! Lately I’ve been interested in sustainable ceramics and how to recycle pieces and make them colourful and fun. Hope to share more soon 😊

These pattern soup designs on my ceramic objects may seem random but they are not. 😊 Picking colours, choosing shapes, selecting the brushes to use and making homemade underglazes. It’s a visual puzzle, which I love so much! 💜
