Ik ben mega vereerd dat mijn werk deel mag uitmaken van de expositie Argile - Klin d’oeil in Parijs, tussen keramisten waar ik heel (heel!) erg fan van ben. Een tijd geleden dacht ik nog: wat zou het tof zijn om hier aan mee te mogen doen! 😊🩷

Pattern soup serie - deze schalen zijn op reis naar Parijs. ☺️ Gemaakt van porselein klei en een combinatie van krijt en hoog gepigmenteerde glazuren uit eigen studio keuken.

Onze badkamer thuis is natuurlijk niet af zonder handgemaakte tegels. Deze patronen tegels zijn tests: kleuren en reliëfs. Zodra ik er tevreden mee ben ga ik een partij maken voor achter de wastafel wand.

Our home bathroom obviously isn’t complete without handmade tiles. These patterned tiles are a test, and once I’m happy with them I’ll make a batch for the wall behind the sink.

Patternsoup - Een onderzoek naar kleur, vorm, porselein, krijt, pigmenten, oftewel: mijn huidige obsessie die ik PATTERNSOUP heb genoemd. De patronen zijn geen decoratie: dit is hoe ik de wereld ervaar. Een rijk gevulde soep aan informatie die via kleur, vormen op een collage achtige manier binnenkomen en eruit komen in klei en kleur. 🙌🏻

Vandaag kwam Julia Odenkirchen langs in mijn atelier en ze nam haar camera mee en legde een deel van het maak proces vast ☺️

Patternsoup — An exploration of color, form, porcelain, crayon, pigments, or in other words: my current obsession which I’ve named PATTERNSOUP. The patterns aren’t decoration: this is how I experience the world. A rich soup of information that comes in through color and shapes in a collage-like way, and comes back out in clay and color.

Today Julia Odenkirchen stopped by my studio and brought her camera along to capture part of the making process ☺️

Back in the studio! Did a much-needed big studio cleanse and mixed a batch of amazing colourful glazes too! ☺️ I’m working on new projects, inspired by the colours and patterns of this summer — both far away and right here at home in Drenthe.

If I don’t know where to start, I grab my sketchbook and begin with the base of everything: colours and patterns!

I describe my work often as 'Pattern Soup' because that's exactly what my brain does with the input the world gives it: a mixture of colours, patterns, textures - like a collage. Or: a fun visual puzzle.
My work is art to use or to enjoy. Handmade from porcelain, patterned by hand, no two the same

These pattern soup designs on my ceramic objects may seem random but they are not. 😊 Picking colours, choosing shapes, selecting the brushes to use and making homemade underglazes. It’s a visual puzzle, which I love so much! 💜
