I have such a love–hate relationship with the Sandstone backdrop design!

When we first launched Sandstone, it looked a little different — it was much closer to white, with the white overlay being more prominent.

But over time, after a lot of trials, customer feedback, and really observing how Sandstone complements products in photos, I decided to relaunch it with a more visible beige base and a very subtle white overlay ❤️

Since the relaunch, Sandstone has been one of our bestsellers every single month!

This particular 3ft × 3ft Sandstone backdrop is one of my absolute favourites I’ve ever made.

I think it really reflects how much this design has evolved — not just in how it looks, but in how it performs for you.

6 years ago, I graduated with a BSc in Speech and Hearing Sciences, ready to begin a career in Speech Therapy.

But while waiting for quarantine to end, I discovered a new passion — food photography and food styling.

What started as a creative outlet slowly became a path I never expected to take.

That journey eventually led me to create Rataa Backdrops — Sri Lanka’s first and only handcrafted backdrop store.

Looking back, choosing this unconventional path was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It has given me purpose, happiness, and a creative career that I truly love. ❤️
