Cornwall’s mining heritage isn’t just part of our landscape — it’s part of the pasty story too.

The Cornish pasty is famously linked to miners, who needed something hearty, portable and filling to take with them for a long day’s work. So when you spot those engine houses dotted across the Cornish coast and countryside, you’re looking at the same history that helped shape one of Cornwall’s best-loved bakes.

And yes, we fully believe a mining trail walk is improved by a flaky steak pasty. That’s not official history, just common sense!

Meet From the Cornish Heart

As well as baking proper Cornish pasties, we’re proud to support local charities, community groups, events and volunteers across Cornwall through our charity, From the Cornish Heart.

From donating pasties to help fuel volunteers and participants, to supporting brilliant local causes doing important work in our communities, it’s all about giving something back to the place we’re proud to call home.

You’ll now start seeing more of our charity stories here on The Cornish Oven main grid — sitting alongside our usual posts about our people, products and places.

Because for us, being properly Cornish means more than what comes out of the oven.

It means helping Cornwall, one pasty at a time.

A huge thank you to The Cornish Oven in Scorrier for hosting a fantastic Charity Day in support of YMCA Cornwall! 💙

The Cornish Oven kindly provided the sweet treats in the form of gingerbread for children, and big kids to decorate. 🍪

Our Youth Ambassador Dan and Fundraising & Partnerships Officer Blaise were on hand throughout the day, chatting to visitors and sharing how YMCA Cornwall supports young people across Cornwall.

It was lovely to engage with people, and have such positive feedback from the local community.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by, donated, decorated a gingerbread man, or took the time to learn more about YMCA Cornwall.

Together, you're helping us create brighter futures for young people at risk of homelessness, in Cornwall. 💙

Last call for travelling pasties.

Our Where’s my pasty to? challenge is nearly over, so this is your final nudge to get your Cornish Oven pasty out somewhere beautifully Cornish and snap the evidence.

Beach, boat, moor, mine, harbour, hedge… we’re not fussy, as long as there’s a pasty and a proper Cornish backdrop.

Tag us and use before the end of August.

Our pasty makers will pick their favourite, with the winner announced on 5th September and a voucher for 10 pasties of your choice up for grabs.

A huge thank you to The Cornish Oven for delivering 60 pasties for our young residents yesterday!

Louise and Bryher dropped off a fantastic selection of pasties, which will help provide easy meals for the young people we support.

Come along to the YMCA Cornwall Charity Day at The Cornish Oven Store

This Saturday, The Cornish Oven is hosting a charity day at their Scorrier store in support of YMCA Cornwall.

Come along from 10 to 2pm to:

• Decorate gingerbread
• Meet the YMCA Cornwall team
• Learn more about our work supporting young people at risk of homelessness
• Make a donation to help change a young person's life

Look out for our banners, flags and collection tins on the day.

The sun was shining and the pasties were flowing on Saturday for Coverack’s Lifeboat Day ☀️🛟

It was a gorgeous day for the lifeboats to pull up alongside the harbour wall and demonstrate just why they are so vital. Stands around the harbour were brimming with local produce, games and crafts, it was a day for the whole family (and for our four legged friends)!

With one of their best years yet, Coverack Lifeboat Day managed to raise an outstanding, preliminary total of over £7000! We are always so proud to be even a small part each year.

A massive shoutout must go to the ladies in our Helston store who, for the last three years, have been the bakers behind the pasties with purpose!

Thank you for having us again Coverack!
