So hard to photograph this cake! My phone camera just isn’t good enough to pick up how sparkly this eighteenth birthday cake was. Once the gold bendy candles were lit it would really glow. A gold star shape shaped with black bows to match the party theme of black and gold.🍾🥂🌟🌟🌟

Kent Dining Experience of the Year 2026 – Taste of Kent Awards

Well, what an evening! ❤️

We are absolutely delighted to announce that The Dove at Dargate has been awarded SILVER for Kent Dining Experience of the Year 2026 at the Taste of Kent Awards!

After making the Top 10 through the public vote, progressing through the judging stages and reaching the final three alongside Drift. in Whitstable and The Pig at Bridge Place, we headed into tonight's awards ceremony with everything crossed!

And what a close result it was… just ONE point separated us from Gold! 🥇🥈

Of course, coming that close makes you wonder what could have been, but we're incredibly proud of what we've achieved.

Eight years ago, we took on The Dove with a vision of creating a welcoming village pub serving great food, using quality ingredients and showcasing the fantastic produce Kent has to offer.

There have been countless early mornings, late nights, challenges and sacrifices along the way, but moments like this remind us just how far we've come.

To be recognised as one of the very best dining experiences in Kent, alongside some truly outstanding establishments, means an incredible amount to us.

A huge congratulations to Drift in Whitstable on taking Gold, and to The Pig at Bridge Place on receiving Bronze. 👏

Most importantly, a massive thank you to our wonderful team, our fantastic suppliers and every single customer who has supported us over the years. Whether you've visited once or have been coming since the beginning, you've all played a part in getting us here.

We're a small independent village pub, and to receive this recognition is something we'll never take for granted.

We may have missed Gold by just one point, but we're coming home with Silver, and that's something we're incredibly proud of! ❤️

We ended up having an impromptu sleepover with our grandchildren this week and were treated to an evening of watching a Sonic the hedgehog film! 😳 What can I say……the things you do for love! 😉🤣 Anyway, here is a Sonic cake from a couple of years ago to celebrate our initiation into the world of Sonic! 🦔🦔🦔

As summer starts to fade there is still colour in the garden. The colchicum bulbs loved the hot weather and have put on a fabulous show, the Japanese anemones and Hydrangea Limelight are still going. There was however a massacre……the blackbirds had nested in the Clematis so we couldn’t cut it back at the usual time. It had gone crazy covering shrubs so we had to have a major chop back! Then as the blackbird was objecting to us cutting away, a sparrow hawk swooped down and took it out! Who needs to watch an Attenborough programme when it all goes on in your garden!

It has been a while since I have made a unicorn cake and I had some very strict instructions from our granddaughter. It must be a chocolate cake with rainbows and a unicorn horn and be sparkly too! Honestly she has to have been the bossiest client ever!😉 Happy 3rd birthday Mya!❤️

It has been a pretty busy week……back to Nannie duty, a trip to London and then two days of baking and decorating this three tiered Everton themed 40th birthday cake …. Oh and it is our granddaughter’s 3rd birthday too! Summertime is definitely over!

I was flicking through the photos on Instagram and just realised I had never actually shared the photos of our finished kitchen!🤦🏼‍♀️ It took a lot of planning and logistics in a tiny house……where to put everything while we worked on it was the big one!( I still haven’t cleared the boxes of china to go back on our dresser) When we first moved in 12 years ago we had 30 boxes of kitchen equipment and nowhere to put it. We flung up some basic units and then accidentally started baking for the village so that’s how it stayed. It was the most badly planned kitchen I have ever worked in and I hated it. Finally with a lot of hard work from our friend and plumber Alan, who did an amazing job making all my long long lists of instructions work, Swannie the electrician who was on constant call every time we needed to move a plug, Graham and Lee for their support and Chris, Mr Ticklebelly himself, for painting everything in sight it finally all came together! A few before and after photos.

Another painted cake this time for a 90th birthday celebration. The theme was wildflowers and butterflies and it looked so pretty with the addition of some silk poppies.

How to incorporate the car, the cat, the dog, the career all in a cake to celebrate your 50th!🤔 One of the fun parts of creating bespoke cakes! The best thing was not having to deal with the heat as the weather has finally changed. A much calmer week in the Bakehouse.🥳
