At Budlake....this week our book of the week is going to be What should I wear Huggle Buggle Bear? And our sign will be Bear. In the home corner we will be having a go at choosing out what we want to wear and dressing ourselves, picking from shoes and dressing up clothes. As autumn is also commencing, we will be talking about appropriate clothes we might need- welly boots, coats, hats etc. We will learn skills like independence, listening to, and following instructions and team work. In the creative area we will do lots of decorating, cutting and sticking. We will have our own teddies bears and decorate them with printed out clothes, googly eyes buttons and pipe cleaners that we can cut out and stick on to make our own Huggle Buggle Bears which will help to develop our fine motor and scissor skills. In the garden we’ll be developing our fine motor skills further -as that’s what we are working on- and understanding more about the world with our home-made washing line where we can peg and unpeg clothes.



Last week our story was Peace at Last. We enjoyed getting cosy putting our teddies to sleep learning how to have quiet time while calming ourselves down and regulating emotions by ourselves. We loved playing lots of games outside in the garden like ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’? and sleeping lions and practicing safe climbing. We all had so much fun and got really involved in leaf printing this week!

At Whipton....this week, we will be continuing our exciting bug theme with one of our favourite stories, The Very Hungry...

At Whipton....this week, we will be continuing our exciting bug theme with one of our favourite stories, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Our number of the week will be 3, and our Makaton signs will be butterfly and caterpillar.

Throughout the week, the children will explore all the delicious foods from the story, using them to support counting, sorting, tasting and imaginative play. Outdoors, we will be getting creative with clay, shaping and moulding it to make our very own bugs inspired by the caterpillar’s journey.

The children will also have opportunities to explore colours, patterns and textures, learn about the life cycle of a butterfly, and enjoy movement, music and storytelling linked to our favourite creepy crawlies.



Our weekly focus will remain centred on supporting the children to play cooperatively with one another. We will continue encouraging them to share resources, take turns, play alongside and with their friends, and begin working together during activities.



Last week, we absolutely loved learning all about Norman’s New Shell! The children were fascinated by Norman’s colourful shell and enjoyed exploring patterns, textures and lots of creative bug‑themed activities. It was wonderful to see their imaginations come alive as they designed their own shells and took part in sensory play inspired by the story.

With so many of our school leavers having had their last days I wanted to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you- thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child’s early years- we have loved every moment (well almost every moment!) Being trusted to take care of the most precious things in your lives is an honour and a pleasure… so thank you for choosing Little Ones!

So many of our children come to us as tiny babies barely even able to sit up on their own… and now we are waving them off as funny, happy, clever, knowledgeable, confident little people with amazing personalities, full of life and excitement for what lies ahead. Your place in our hearts has been firmly cemented and we will always remember you!

Thank you to all our amazing parents for their gifts, cards and kind comments- we really do appreciate them all. Please don’t forget us… we love having visits… and love to see pictures of our Little Ones in their school uniforms!!

I found this poem on 'Emma's blog' last week and thought it was very relevant! (Tissues needed!)

Dear Teacher,
“I know you’re rather busy, first day back, there’s just no time, a whole new class of little ones and this one here is mine.

I’m sure you have things covered and have done this lots before, but my boy is very little, he hasn’t long turned four.

In his uniform this morning, he looked so tall and steady, but now beside your great big school I’m not quite sure he’s ready.

Do you help them eat their lunch? Are you quick to soothe their fears? And if he falls and hurts his knee will someone dry his tears?

And what if no-one plays with him? What if someone’s mean?What if two kids have a fight and he’s caught in between?

You’re right, I have to leave now it’s time for him to go I’m sure he’ll learn so much from you, things that I don’t know.

Yes, I’m sure they settle quickly, that he’s fine now without me, I know he has to go to school, it’s just so fast.

You see, it seems like just a blink ago I first held him in my arms, it’s been my job to love, to teach, to keep him safe from harm.

So, when I wave goodbye in a moment and he turns to walk inside, forgive me if I crumple into tears of loss and pride.

I know as I give him one more kiss and watch him walk away, that he’ll never again be wholly mine as he was before today “

Dear Parent,
I understand that you are scared to wave your child goodbye and leave him in a teacher’s hands – don’t worry if you cry!

I’m used to weeping parents, it’s hard to leave I know. But it’s time to share him (just a bit) to help him learn and grow.

Let me reassure you that I’ll give your child my best, I’ll wipe his tears, soothe his fears and change his dirty vest!

If your darling child is full of cold I’ll blow their nose all day, just like you, I’ll care for them in a special way.

I’ll treat him like I would my own I’ll catch him from a fall and if there is ANY problem I’ll be sure to tell you all.

It’s true he’ll grow to love us, they’ll talk of school a lot, it doesn’t mean they hate you and that you should lose the plot! I’ll tell you a secret…That when your child is here, they talk to me as much of you of this please have no fear.

You’ll always be their mother, whilst teachers come and go, to them you are their number one, this I truly know.

Soon you’ll see some changes, in your little girl or boy, they’ll become more independent and to see this, it’s a joy!

I’ll teach them all I have to give, to share, climb and to write, but to you they safely will return to tuck them in at night.

At Bovey....Next week, we are going to be reading the book ‘snail and the whale’ and our number of the week is going to be number 4.

During the week, we are going to be teaching the children the importance of recycling and why we recycle. With the recycling objects, inside we are going to junk model with them to see what we can create. Outdoors, we are going to be exploring the water outdoors and talking about sea life.

Our focus of the week is going to be identifying colours. Through our music and movement sessions, we will be playing circle games including games with the parachute. And during focus time we are going to be looking at letter formation and recognising letters, alongside practising identifying colours.



This week we have been reading ‘Tiddler’ and our number of the week has been 3. During the week, we have explored the tuff trays with fish and materials/messy play to replicate the sea. The children have enjoyed finding the fish hidden in the water by using shapes and fishing nets to find them, alongside using the stamps to create fish on their paper.

At Honiton....This week our book of the week is The Paperdolls and our number of the week is 9. In our cube we are going...

At Honiton....This week our book of the week is The Paperdolls and our number of the week is 9. In our cube we are going to be talking about our friendships and relationships that we have with the people we love. We’re also going to be discussing making new friends when we go to school.

Inside we will be trying to make our own paperdoll strips just like the story and we’re going to draw and decorate each doll to represent our friends. Outside we’re going to be thinking about playing pairs and group games. We already love to play sandy girl but we are going to try throwing and catching balls in pairs and then playing with the parachute as a big group.

During music and movement times we are going to be playing the bean game, the traffic light game and we will be dancing to music and then during our focus times we’re going to practice out scissor skills and letter writing.

This week we have been discussing the weather whilst reading the story Elmer. We have created some colourful pictures using different coloured tissue paper to make our own Elmer’s and we’ve also been exploring in the coloured water outside.

At Bovey....this week, at Nursery we are going to be reading the story ‘Tiddler’ and the number of the week will be 3.

During the week, we will be setting out a variety of invitations to play in tuff trays inspired by the book of the week – this will include a lot of water play!

Inside, the invitations to play in tuff trays will also be carried out in our small world area where the children will get the opportunity to explore sea animals and different types of fish, incorporated with our messy play tuff trays.

Our focus time activities will be based around our gross motor skills and fine motor skills – the children will be given the chance to explore our bouncy hoppers, bikes and climbing frame, alongside practising our letter recognition/tracing and threading skills,

Through music and movement, we will be playing lots of circle games like the parachute, duck duck goose and sandy girl!



Last week, we have been reading the story ‘The Tiger who came to Tea’ and our number of the week has been 2. Throughout the week, the children have been creating tigers using our arts and crafts resources, having tea parties during snack times and also they have been having the opportunity to play with the tigers!

At Honiton....this week in the baby and toddler room our theme is sensory! In the cube we are going to be looking at the “That’s not my…” books to feel the different textures and we will have sensory bottles and textured pads to try out. They are going to be exploring sensory bags filled with sand, paint, feathers and glitter to see what the different textures feel like when you touch them. In our mark making area we are going to have colourful ice to make paintings and mix different colours together. For outside the children are going to have crazy foam in the tuff tray to help explore their senses to see what it feels like and what it smells like. We will also have some sessions in our sensory room to look and the bubble lamps and try the sequin boards.



Last week we have been learning about nature and have been searching for the bugs hidden in the leaves with our magnifying glasses. We used paint to see what prints the bugs and the leaves made on paper. In our mark making area we used circle shapes to make our own Caterpillars!

At Budlake....Next week our book of the week is Mini Rabbit ‘Not lost’, and our sign is Rabbit. In our malleable material area, we will have a red playdough and flour tray where we can make our own little red berries just like in the story. We can shape and manipulate the materials, use our senses throughout the activity and explore textures. This activity will also help to improve our fine motor skills and put our turn taking into practice. In the back garden we are going to have an exciting ‘find the berry hunt’, pretending we are Mini Rabbit. We will have lots of red berries and cake cut outs as well as little bunnies helping us hiding around the garden too! To help us with the hunt we will have to use our problem solving and teamwork skills.



This week our story was The Bear Hunt. We had so much fun exploring textures with our sensory bear hunt trail in the garden. We enjoyed our story cards and having a go at retelling the story and using our mathematical skills to count and put them in the right order. We’ve really loved doing different puzzles and ride on vehicles in the garden too.

At Bovey....Next week, our number of the week is going to be number 2 our book of the week is going the be ‘the tiger who came to tea’.

During the week, we have planned to roleplay with food, cups and plates and have a tea party inspired by the book with tigers! We will also be using our senses to taste different food, alongside baking activities.

Outside in the garden, we will be encouraging lots of roleplay in the kitchen with pretend food and drinks.

Our music and movement sessions are going to include moving around like animals and singing animal songs.

Through focus time, the children will be given the opportunity to take part in baking activities and recognise the ingredients we need to bake certain foods.



This week, we have been reading ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and our number of the week was 1. During the week we have created obstacles courses and used the climbing frame to climb to the top of the beanstalk. The children have created their own beanstalks using paint and arts and craft resources which they have really enjoyed!

At Honiton....This week we have been busy caring for the dolls, washing and dressing them, we then read them stories and rocked them to sleep. Our preschool children have been drawing themselves using a selection of different craft resources, we used mirrors to look at our refection talking about hair and eye colour and how we are all different! the children extended this activity by wanting to draw their friends and family also, we then talked about who we live with and people who are special to us. We used playdough to make faces alongside looking at our feelings cards to help us express our own feelings.



Next week our book of the week is ‘car car truck jeep’ which is a favourite for lots of our children. We will be learning about transport, our activities will include rolling different vehicles through the paint making lots of different patterns and marks whilst talking about the colours that we are using. Outside we will have tubes of water and sponges so we can all have ago at cleaning our own bikes. If you have a favourite book at home about transport you are more than welcome to bring it in to nursery and we can read the book to everyone at group time.
