Deeply rooted in Greek Orthodox tradition, August 15th celebrates the Dormition of the Virgin Mary — Panagia and is both a Holy Day and a National Holiday in Greece. 🙏

It’s a day filled with church services, family gatherings, celebrations and, of course, Name Day parties! 🎉

With so many Greek families celebrating a Maria, Despina, Panagiotis or Panagiota, it truly feels like all of Greece is celebrating today. 💙🤍

🇬🇷 Traditional Greek Dakos Recipe

Ingredients: 🥖 1 barley rusk (Dakos) 🍅 1 ripe tomato, grated or finely chopped 🫒 Extra virgin olive oil 🧀 Authentic Greek feta, imported from Greece 🫒 Kalamata olives 🌿 Capers 🌿 Select Bakery Greek oregano🧂 Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper (optional)

Directions:

Lightly moisten the barley rusk with a little water.

Drizzle generously with extra virgin olive oil.

Top with the grated tomato.

Crumble authentic Greek feta over the tomatoes.

Add Kalamata olives and capers.

Finish with a generous sprinkle of Select Bakery Greek oregano and another drizzle of olive oil.
