WHY I HAVE LEARNED TO AVOID THE “CAKE GODZILLA” CLIENT
Every cake designer has met one. I have had a few , but one customer ( Cake Godzilla ) from last year almost made me quit this business ! Literally !! It took me months to get over the assassination of my skill level from this particular customer .
I have since become selective with taking new orders , primarily taking only orders from my regulars and their friends & family ( luckily I have enough customers to keep me busy and no longer rely on other social media outlets for new customer’s )
Cake Godzilla’s
The customer wants a 5-tier wedding cake… on a cupcake budget.
They change the design numerous times after approval.
The customer who sends photos from Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram, and Aunt Susan’s wedding and says:
“Can you combine all of these into one cake?”
The customer who asks:
Can you make it bigger?”
Can you make it fancier?”
Can you make it cheaper?”
Can you have it ready tomorrow?”
The customer who emails and expects a response back in minutes , and then gets angry when you respond a few hours later .
The customer who reads none of the information provided, ignores the quote, skips the contract, and then is surprised by the details discussed weeks earlier.
I affectionately call this client “Cake Godzilla” because no matter how much effort, talent, communication, or buttercream you throw at the project… they continue ignoring every boundary in sight.
The truth is, these situations rarely end happily for anyone. They create stress, confusion, unrealistic expectations, and take away time from my amazing clients who trust my expertise.
At Divine Design Cakes By Kerry, I believe the best cakes come from:
Respect
Kindness
Clear Communication
Realistic Expectations
Trust in the creative process
Thankfully, most of our clients are absolutely wonderful, and I am grateful for each and every one of you!
