Be on the lookout for the spotted lanternfly!
Spotted lanternfly (SLF) is an invasive insect that feeds on a wide variety of plants and trees. Although not established in Ontario, it has become a serious problem in neighbouring U.S. states and poses a growing threat to Ontario's horticulture industry, natural ecosystems, and Canada's grape and wine industry.
At this time of year, look for:
🔎 Egg Masses: Mud-like smears about 2.5 cm long. The coating starts shiny and later becomes dry and cracked, covering brown, seed-like eggs.
🔎 Late-stage Nymphs: Red and black with white spots
🔎 Adults: Light forewings with black spots and bright red underwings when open.
📸 Spot it? Snap it, catch it, and report it!
Report sightings to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and help prevent the spread.
