We didn’t just build a website. We built a system.

Two years ago, we decided to build something that would make Kinni Cakery more than just a cake business.

Coming from an IT background, I kept thinking: what if our website could actually think for us?

So we built an AI-powered system where every product we create can flow directly onto our website. The AI analyzes the images, understands the product, creates the product listing on the website, uploads pictures, and notifies us when it’s ready.

All we have to do is add the price.

Even our website content automatically syncs with the TV screens in both our stores.

But the journey wasn’t easy.

For the first SIX months after launching our website…

0 orders.

Literally ZERO.

I remember sitting at a friend’s place, crying about how our business wasn’t scaling and wondering what we were doing wrong.

And then, right at that moment…

Our first website order came in.

It was our first ray of hope.

That’s when we realized the website wasn’t the problem. People simply didn’t know about it.

So we kept building. Improving. Automating.

Eventually, our website became much more than a place to showcase cakes. It became our entire business system — from payments and orders to product creation, tracking and automation.

We called it Kinni’s Cakeflow.

And then we asked ourselves:

“If this is solving so many problems for us, why not build it for other bakers too?”

So we did.

Today, Cakeflow is the system we wish we had when we started.

And the three Blooming Birthday cakes you see in this reel? They’re just one small example of how our entire process now flows together.

From creation → website → order → production.

Technology shouldn’t make running a cake business harder.

It should remove the friction.

That’s exactly what we’re trying to do with Kinni’s Cakeflow.

Visit cakeflow.ca to see what we’ve built. ❤️

This one is for all my fellow bakers.

Now that I own a bakery supply store, I get to meet all kinds of bakers and cake artists every single day.

And honestly, it has made me think about my own journey a lot.

When I first started my business, I was always thinking about one thing:

How do I save time?

If my business needed 25 packs of cake boxes, I wasn't buying 25.

I was buying 50.

Because I didn't want to spend my time running around looking for boxes every time an order came in.

And I know there are bakers who will compare every single cent between Amazon and a local supplier.

And that's completely okay.

But what you don't always get on Amazon is that little conversation with another business owner.

That five-minute conversation where someone says,

"Hey, have you tried this?"

Those conversations gave me so much more than just supplies.

They gave me insight.

And because I started sourcing locally, I slowly started realizing just how many bakers and cake artists were actually around us.

That eventually became a completely different part of our business.

We had to learn warehousing.

Inventory.

Stock management.

And eventually, how to become an essential last-mile delivery partner for bakers who simply didn't have the time to leave their kitchen and go shopping.

And that's when I realized something.

If you keep finding ways to save your time and learn something new every single day, eventually, you stop working like just a baker.

You start thinking like an entrepreneur.

Because look around you.

How many bakers do you actually see turning their business into a full-time career?

Maybe one out of ten?

And I don't think that's because there's not enough market.

I think sometimes...

we're just not ready for the market when it comes knocking.

That last-minute order.

That wedding cake you didn't expect.

That customer who needs something tomorrow.

And suddenly, you're spending three hours solving a problem that could have been avoided with a little planning.

Every time you solve a real-life bakery problem, you're learning how to run a business.

That's the difference between thinking about becoming full-time and actually becoming one

We don’t make cakes. We create emotions. ❤️

Three years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about cakes.

I was an IT developer at RBC, constantly thinking about systems, processes and one question: “What more can I build?” I used to look at the RBC app and wonder what else could possibly be solved when so many problems had already been solved.

Then one day, I helped my mother wash dishes after she made cakes.

I didn't bake. I didn't make sponges. I didn't know anything about cake decorating.

I simply started helping.

And I kept doing it—not for a month or two, but for almost two years.

While washing dishes, I started watching my mother decorate. I had always loved painting and colours, and slowly, I fell in love with the creativity of cakes.

But my engineering brain was still working.

I started asking: Why does this take so long? Can we make this faster? Can we create a better process? Can we do more without needing more people?

So we combined creativity with an engineering mindset and Agile principles. We experimented, failed, improved, standardized and built a process that simply couldn't be beaten.

Fast forward three years.

Today, we make 250+ cakes every month, with no employees and no outside help. We run two stores, doing everything ourselves.

And yes, we now make 10x what I used to make at RBC.

But the money was never the starting point.

It started with washing dishes.

It grew from watching my mother create.

And it became a business because we kept learning, improving and believing.

Because a cake isn't just flour, cream and decoration.

It's a birthday.
A wedding.
A milestone.
A surprise.
A memory.

That's why we don't make cakes. We create emotions.

And that's what makes our cakes Kinni.

If there's one thing this journey taught me:

Follow your dream. Build it with passion. Keep improving.

And sometimes, when you stop chasing money and start chasing what you love…

money follows you. ❤️

Today I delivered a cake to the Fairmont Banff.

Every time I walk into a place like that with one of my creations, I remind myself of something.

It's easy to look at a business from the outside and say, "They're lucky," or "Of course they get these kinds of orders."

What people don't see are the last three years.

The sleepless nights.
The financial stress.
The uncertainty.
The mistakes.
The sacrifices my family made.
The weekends we didn't have.
The days when we questioned whether we were doing the right thing.

Those moments don't show up in Instagram posts.

Over the years, I've also learned one of the hardest lessons in business: your time is your most valuable asset.

I genuinely love teaching, helping, and sharing what I've learned. But I've realized that not everyone is ready to put in the work. Some people attend one class, get excited, and then disappear. Success isn't built from one day of motivation. It's built from showing up again and again, especially on the days you don't feel like it.

Today, I choose to invest my time in people who are willing to invest in themselves.

The same lesson changed my business.

There was a time when I said yes to almost everything. Every order, every request, every opportunity. But eventually I realized that saying yes to everything meant saying no to the business I truly wanted to build.

So I made a difficult decision.

I stopped chasing every cake order.

I left the smaller cakes behind and focused on creating work that truly excited me, challenged me, and reflected the direction I wanted Kinni to grow.

It was scary. There was no guarantee it would work.

But something incredible happened.

The right clients started finding us.

Clients who trusted our creativity.
Clients who valued our craftsmanship.
Clients who celebrated life's biggest moments with us.

People often ask how we started making cakes for luxury venues and destination celebrations.

The answer wasn't luck.

It was clarity.

I became clear about the kind of work I wanted to create and the clients I wanted to serve. Every decision after that moved us one step closer.

This is just the beginning 💜

An AI-generated cake design landed in our inbox, and today it sits on the table as a real cake. ✨🎂

We took a digital concept and transformed it into edible art, adding our own creative touch along the way. Technology can imagine it, but it still takes an artist's hands, experience, and passion to bring it to life.

In a world where creativity and technology work hand in hand, almost anything is possible.

If the cake was created by tech, it deserves to be fulfilled by tech too. 💻➡️🍰

From pixels to buttercream, from AI to reality — this is where imagination becomes cake.
