We're excited to shine a spotlight on one of our café partners, Last Crumb Cake Co — a Bassendean favourite that's earned a loyal following across Perth for good reason.

Founded by husband-and-wife team Grant and Lyndsay, Last Crumb Cake Co is the result of years of passion, hard work, and a shared commitment to quality. After operating a mobile coffee business since 2009, Grant took the leap into a permanent café space, while Lyndsay brought her love of exceptional food and attention to detail into every corner of the business.

Our wholesale manager Andrew has known Grant for many years, so partnering together felt like a natural progression when the opportunity arose to serve our coffee alongside their incredible food offering.

From beautifully crafted celebration cakes and hearty gourmet pies to freshly baked cinnamon scrolls and inventive pastries, everything at Last Crumb is made with genuine care. We're thrilled that Karvan coffee is now part of the experience.

Why weighing your coffee is a game-changer whether you're brewing at home or running a café.

It comes down to one word: CONSISTENCY

Every bag of coffee is different. Grind size, humidity, and roast level all affect how dense your grounds are – meaning a scoop that works perfectly on Monday might taste completely different by Friday. Volume lies. Weight doesn't.

When you dial in your dose (the dry coffee in) and your yield (the liquid espresso out), you're not just making a good cup, you're making the "same" good cup every single time.

For home brewers, it means no more guessing. No more "Why does this taste flat today?"

From day one, their passion, vision, and unwavering dedication shaped LBM into the business it is today. What they’ve built over the years is more than just a company. It’s a community, a culture, and a legacy that will continue long into the future.

Brad & Fleur, thank you for every lesson, every conversation, every laugh, and for the endless support and guidance you’ve given this team along the way. Your impact on all of us has been immeasurable.

After two wonderful years with us, our beloved Ella is heading off on a well-deserved adventure.

Anyone who works in hospitality knows that a genuinely warm personality is rarer than it sounds. Plenty of people can put on a smile, but Ella's was the real thing. She lit up the entire room the moment she walked in, and everyone felt it immediately.

"I'll do it" — three words that pretty much summed her up.
Always easy-going, always happy to help, and always the first one on her feet when something needed doing.

Thank you, Ella. An absolute legend! Go soak up every moment of that European adventure. You've absolutely earned it.

Last month we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Southern Hills Christian College for another barista training session, and it was as wonderful as ever.

Southern Hills is a school that truly invests in its students, offering a fantastic range of activities and skill-up programmes. Barista training is just one piece of that puzzle, and we're proud to be a long-standing part of their journey.

Seeing their students grow in confidence behind the espresso machine is one of the real joys of what we do. Thank you for continuing to trust us with your students.

After 16 years of growing our business and our wonderful brands, it is time for Brad and I to retire, and so we would like to let you know that we have sold Leaf Bean Machine.

Last weekend we sat in the armchairs in the café for the first time ever and looked towards the heart of the business and said, “Look at what we created!" Looking back and reflecting on where we have come from and where we are now has been filled with laughter and some tears. We are incredibly proud of what we have created with you as our Leaf Bean Machine customers and, of course, our gorgeous team.

Settlement is expected to take place today, and we are thrilled to announce that another West Australian couple, Shaun and Emily Tonkinson, will be taking over all operations and who share the same passion for quality coffee and community as we do.

What does this mean for you?

*Stability – The team you know and love will be here to keep spoiling you, and Shaun and Emily are committed to keeping the business running as the well loved family business that it is.

*Same Quality – We are pleased to have remained a family owned business with owners who have the same high standards as us.

We have been receiving lovely messages from people all over the world, which is so thoughtful and makes us realise how many people our coffee has touched.

From the bottom of our hearts, Brad and I thank you for all of your support over the last 16 years. Just like coffee, cocoa beans go through a meticulous process. Grown in the shade-loving tropics, cocoa pods are harvested at peak ripeness, opened to separate the seeds and pulp, then fermented and dried. The result? Deep, complex flavour that makes every sip (or bake) special.

It's bittersweet to say goodbye to someone who's brought so much to our team.

Kahlia's passion for coffee and community has been infectious from day one. She brought fresh energy, new perspectives, and a thoughtful approach that elevated everything we do. Whether it was quietly organising behind the scenes, supporting the team, or sharing her vision for what specialty coffee could be — she made us better.

Her care for the people around her, her attention to detail, and her genuine love for this industry have left a lasting mark on Leaf Bean Machine.
