A quick heads up fam.
Bissel B will be closed Tuesday 23 June, as we take time to celebrate the life of Gaby Kurban.

Gaby was more than part of our business, he was part of the heart behind it. Thank you for your understanding as we take this time to honour and remember him.

We’ll see you all again from 7am Wednesday. 🥯

Every business has its foundations.

Ours wasn’t built on bagels.

It was built on hard work.

The kind that starts before sunrise.
The kind nobody applauds.
The kind done simply because it needs to be done.

Gaby carried that mindset into everything he did.

And whether he realised it or not, he passed it on to all of us.

His hands helped build this place.

His example will continue to shape it.

(Also we had to play ABBA, because that’s all he would ever want to listen to in store 😂)

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Gaby Kurban.

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Gaby when he owned Bissel B, you’d know he was literally the light of bridge road.
For 3 years straight he was the first one at the cafe and the last one to leave. You’d be greeted at the front of the shop at 5:30/6am with the biggest smile and genuine conversation. Most mornings he’d be giving away free coffee to regulars on their way to work and having chats over the pass as he made their breakfast. Usually it would end with “if this isn’t the best bagel you’ve ever eaten, then my name isn’t Gaby Kurban 😂” or when there were new specials launching, he’d always make one for them to try and tell them they’re going to love it… which they always came back the next morning and told him that they did.

‘Heey buddy how yah goin” was usually what you’d hear him yell across the shop when he knew someone who walked through the door. No matter what, he always made you feel special and seen. Like you mattered and that someone cared. And that extended to his staff that he mentored too.

His banter and contagious happiness will be sorely missed.
