Osoi is a tiny cafe in Brunswick, nestled within the Nightingale Wurru Wurru Biik community. Duy approached us with a 17sqm space, envisioning a homey haven for handcrafted specialty beverages and sweet treats.

The cafe features a tightly packed service area designed for the meticulous preparation of every ingredient. The front-of-house area includes a cozy lounge and a slim leaner against the windows. Every inch of the space is filled with art, carefully curated characters, books, and handwritten notes. Outside, customers spill onto the footpath and nearby bleacher seating, creating a vibrant hum of activity.

The space utilises a warm colour palette, combining spotted gum timber veneer with textured Porterā€™s paint on one feature wall. Shallow shelving along the perimeter and ribbed detailing at the base of the espresso bar provide dedicated areas for display.

Contrasting this warmth is a utilitarian stainless steel work surface behind the espresso bar, paired with the raw aesthetic of the tenancyā€™s exposed concrete block walls.

With the roadworks on Wilson Ave complete and residents at 9 Wilson happily settled, the community came together to host the first Jewell Station Village Street Party. Utilising Merri-bekā€™s Play Streets program we were able to close Wilson Ave to car traffic and invite everyone out to celebrate and be merry. In a celebration of the community and all things Brunswick there were food and drink collabs, raffle prizes from local small businesses and stalls run by residents. The day started with a yoga session on the street, a demonstration from the Goju Ryu Brunswick Karate Club and music provided by local DJā€™s. The main event was the inaugural Dogs of Jewell Station Village Show - with over 25 entrants, dogs of all sizes and breeds came to take part.

Supersalon; a new space for Jess Wang at Nightingale Wurru Wurru Biik. We wanted to design a salon that is instantly welcoming and calm, capturing the same feelings that Jess brings to her work.

Hints of blue appear throughout the space, including cabinets stained a deep blue by Jess herself and a tiled blue ledge along the windows. Nestled along the train line, the salon is wrapped in windows that allow sunlight to stream in from the streetā€” the street is in fact an undercover walkway adjacent to the Upfield bike path, it links Supersalon to its neighbours which include the one and only Osoi.

Supersalon; the shampoo area offers a unique experience, wrapped in a curtain of colour. TheĀ fabric, carefully repurposed from the former Dream Baby space on Gertrude Street, isĀ gradientĀ orange on the outside and anĀ allĀ encompassingĀ blue on the inside, creating an ocean of serene calm as you relax in the chair. This swathe of fabric transitions you through to the main salon space, which isĀ characterisedĀ by individual salon stations, each framed by floor-to-ceiling timber posts.Ā
