I had a small medical episode about 6 weeks ago and ended up at the Gold Coast University Hospital. At the hospital I had an MRI, all clear, and an EEG and was told by the nurse, who was really good as were everyone I cam in contact with, that I would receive a call re an appointment with a neurologist regarding my EEG.
Firstly I received a letter stating that my appointment with the neurologist would be online via QR code and Teams meeting. Now luckily I understand all that but I am absolutely sure that the majority of people over 75 would not have a clue. So I get a letter stating my appointment was going to be on April 7th at 9 am and I would receive a text around that time explaining what I had to do. Around 9.45, having heard nothing, I called the help line, had to wait another 35 minutes, when finally answered I asked what is happening? The receptionist explained I have had a communication postponing the appointment to May 6th! I told her I had no message of any sort, to which she was very surprised, not quite believing me, and asked me to wait while she checked my messages. On her return she explained,quite surprised, that in fact I had not been sent anything at all from the neurologists clinic and that a letter was sent to me on April 2nd, not yet received, with a new date.
How can the Hospital be so good and efficient but the neurologist clinic be so bad. I will not get a result on my EEG until some time in May which would be at least 10 weeks from my episode!
