Fine Pastries, one of the first Artisan Bakeries in Stellenbosch celebrated its 11th year of existence by the time the new ownership team became involved. All three of us came from different backgrounds and were up for a new challenge in life. As we were convinced that our complimentary skill sets combined with the core of competent staff in the established business will result in success, we deci
ded to get involved. With a restricted budget, we had no option but to take it upon ourselves to get the proposed new coffee shop and bakery outlet, a new look and feel. So long hours of work and sweat later, we could sit back and appreciate our creation and soon after we had the privilege to open the doors for our first trade day. Two and a half years flew past and not only did we manage to successfully establish the coffee shop, but also increase turnover by offering more products to existing customers and adding new customers to our existing loyal customer base. Amongst others, we enjoy do theme evenings, bridal showers, high teas, baby showers and if you want….a high tea in a box(we supply what is necessary for your own high tea at home). We recently added cakes to our large selection of pastries and breads. In addition to the three markets we do every Saturday, a new dimension to the business is our very popular meals of the day which is now booming. We were pleasantly surprized when we unexpectedly came out on top in Die Burger’s “melktert” competition that was run in March 2016 as part of “Nasionale Melktert dag” and needless to say, milk tarts are now one of our best sellers. One of our regular customers and well known foodie, Emile Joubert described the milk tart as:
“die melktert vulsel is so sag soos engelasem en geurig soos ‘n eikelaan na die reën.”
At this stage our whole team are working on new ideas for the coming season that can complement our current range of breads, pies, pastries and quiches that are our proud and joy. As always, everything will be prepared, by hand with lots of passion and love by our talented staff using the best and freshest ingredients available.
