This is how we charge for our labour of love making cakes for our beautiful clients, hoping you understand😉
Explaining my costing method like im explaining to a toddler as requested 😂😂someone asked me on one of my posts to explain my costing method like Im explaining to a 4-year-old 😂😂 So here we go…
Long but it will help you!!So Imagine you are making a cake.Firstly you will look at your recipe.
Lets say your recipe gives you 2 layers of an 8-inch cake.
You then write down everything you used:
* Flour
* Sugar
* Eggs
* Butter
* Milk
* Vanilla
Then you put a price next to each item.Lets say all the ingredients together cost R150.
Then you add the ingredients for cream:
Lets say that costs R100
So now:
* Ingredients = R150
* Cream = R100
Total so far = R250
But wait… you’re not done.
You also used:
* Electricity
* Water
* Packaging
* Transport
Lets say all of those cost R200
Now your total is:
R250 + R200 = R450
Now its time to pay yourself ,You decide your labour fee.Lets say you charge R100 per hour
Meaning If you spent 2 hours:R100 × 2 = R200 labour
Now:
R450 + R200 = R650
But remember…
You are running a businessnot a charity 😌(my customer told me this today 🙈l was happy that they now understand)
So you add profit,lets say your profit is 30%
30% of R650 = R195
Now:
R650 + R195 = R845
This means:
Your 2 layers cost R845 base price
Since your recipe gives 2 layers you will then divide:
R845 ÷ 2 = R422 per layer
Round it up to R450 for unexpected costs
So now you know:
One layer = R450
If a customer wants 3 layers:
R450 × 3 = R1350 (Base price)
Then if the customer wants:
* Toppers
* Fondant
* Gold leaf
* Extra decorations
You add on top of R1350 depending on:
* Time
* Materials
* Effort
And always remember more details = more labour + more profit 😊
And thats how you cost your cake…Obviously l have many methods but this is the simplest
Even a 4 year old can understand now 😂
