🫀 Researchers are looking at Rooibos in a much more detailed way than before, including how it may influence the heart itself.

A recent South African study used cardiac ultrasound to monitor participants before and after a 12-week Rooibos intervention. Rather than only measuring blood markers, researchers observed structural changes in heart function over time.

📊 Participants consuming Rooibos showed improvements linked to cardiovascular health, including changes in the left atrium, an area often associated with elevated heart risk.

Earlier studies had already connected Rooibos with lower LDL cholesterol, reduced oxidative stress and improved lipid profiles. This newer research adds another layer to the conversation.

💡 It’s still early-stage science, and larger studies are needed. But it is interesting to see a caffeine-free herbal infusion continuing to attract serious cardiovascular research.

A simple cup, with more going on behind the scenes than most people realise. 🌿

🦠 Most people know Rooibos as an antioxidant. Fewer know what it might be doing for the trillions of microorganisms in your gut.

Research published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that Rooibos polyphenols may act as prebiotics, selectively encouraging beneficial gut bacteria while inhibiting harmful strains.

This matters because gut microbiome balance influences:
🧠 Brain health and mood
🛡️ Immune function
🔥 Inflammation levels
⚡ Energy and metabolism

Rooibos is also naturally low in tannins, unlike black tea, meaning it does not inhibit iron absorption or cause stomach irritation.

Your gut might have been asking for Rooibos all along. 🌿

📓 One small habit that makes 6 cups a day even more powerful.

🔹 Track your cups. How many and when. Takes 30 seconds.
🔹 Note your additives. Milk, sugar, honey
🔹 Record how you feel. Sleep, energy, digestion.

This is exactly the protocol used in Rooibos clinical trials. Participants who tracked consistently showed improved antioxidant status, better lipid profiles, and lower blood glucose levels.

Your diary is your data. Start today. 🫖

🧪 “Six cups a day” is not a random recommendation. It comes from clinical research on Rooibos and how its plant compounds interact with the body.

Rooibos contains polyphenols, natural compounds that help protect cells against oxidative stress linked to ageing, pollution and everyday wear on the body. One of the most interesting is aspalathin, a flavonoid unique to Rooibos.

📊 In human studies, participants who drank six cups of Rooibos daily for six weeks showed improvements in antioxidant status and reductions in certain cardiovascular risk markers.

💡 Researchers also found preparation matters. The Rooibos was steeped properly, usually around 5 minutes, allowing more of the beneficial compounds to be released into the cup.

It’s a simple habit, backed by some surprisingly detailed science. 🌿

🫖 Six cups sounds like a lot. Here's how easily it fits:

☀️ 1 cup with breakfast
🕙 1 cup at mid-morning tea break
🍽️ 2 cups with lunch
🕔 1 cup in the afternoon
🌙 1 cup before bed

That's 6 cups without any effort.

Research from Prof Marnewick et al. recommends 6 cups daily as the optimal intake for maximum health benefit. ✔️

🌿 Here’s a glimpse of what Rooibos looks like at the end of the harvest season.

The last leaves have been hand-cut and placed into sacks, ready to be transported to drying yards where they will be left in the sun to dry.

In the wild Cederberg, Rooibos is shaped by heat, wind, and time - thriving where little else can.

Bare, sun-baked and quietly spectacular. This is what a Rooibos farm looks like after harvest.

Most people never see this part. But this is where every cup begins. 🌿
