Participants in Impendle recently took part in a focused training session with Vuyani Hans, associate trainer from Emerging Leaders, centred on a key principle of entrepreneurship: ๐ŸŒพ for a project to succeed, you need clarity of focus and the ability to manage both internal and external interference.

Through honest discussion and practical examples, participants explored how mindset, boundaries, time management and outside pressures can either support or derail their progress โ€“ and how ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐š๐ฅ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐œ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ -๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฆ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐œ๐œ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ. ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿšจ Food security depends on effective disease control - and effective disease control depends on equitable vaccine access.

Kwanalu remains deeply concerned that vaccine allocation across KZNโ€™s livestock sector remains uneven while the province continues to carry the countryโ€™s heaviest FMD burden.

Every producer forms part of the same food production chain, and if one part remains vulnerable, the entire system remains vulnerable.

๐Ÿšง The true cost of collapsing rural road infrastructure is not only measured in repair bills, it is โ€œmeasuredโ€ in declining investment, shrinking incomes and fewer jobs for vulnerable rural communities.

When roads fail, businesses hesitate to invest, transport costs rise and economic growth slows. Rural communities ultimately carry the heaviest burden.

Agriculture cannot thrive without functional infrastructure. Neither can the communities that depend on it.

Kwanalu continues to call for urgent, accountable and coordinated intervention to address deteriorating road networks across KZN.

Road conditions across KwaZulu-Natal are no longer isolated incidents.

From northern districts to the far south, concerns around deteriorating infrastructure continue to emerge from businesses, farmers and communities alike.

This points to a broader, systemic challenge - one that requires coordinated response, clear accountability and effective delivery across all levels.

Addressing this issue will require more than isolated fixes. It requires a structured, province-wide approach.

The future of rural economies depends on it.
How are current road conditions impacting your area? Let us know.

Farmers continue to do what they have always done - adapt, respond and keep going.
But resilience should not hide the reality.

Foot and Mouth Disease continues to place sustained pressure on livestock producers, their operations and the broader agricultural value chain.

Recognising that impact matters. Supporting farmers through it matters even more.
Kwanalu stands alongside the agricultural community during this time.
Stand with farmers.

Kwanaluโ€™s Women and Youth in Rural Entrepreneurship (WYRE) initiative has demonstrated what focused, practical support can achieve โ€“ within just six months, past participants were able to increase their income by 20%. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ

These gains reflect more than improved earnings โ€“ they represent growing confidence, stronger decision-making and businesses that are beginning to stand on their own feet. ๐Ÿ’ช

With Nedbank's support, WYRE is now deepening this impact by helping participants strengthen their enterprises, create local jobs and build lasting economic resilience in rural communities. ๐Ÿ’š

Foot and Mouth Disease has introduced a level of uncertainty that many producers cannot plan around.

Market access, movement, and operational decisions are all affected - often without clear timelines or predictable outcomes.

For farmers, this uncertainty is more than an inconvenience. It affects confidence, investment and the ability to move forward.

Kwanalu recognises the ongoing strain this places on livestock producers and rural businesses across the province.

Stay informed. Stand with farmers.
